Its not often you find a label that you like every artist on, especially one thats range in artists is pretty big. Home to Baths , and Tobacco , Anticon records appears to specialize in indie, electronic music, you could even go to say it has a lo-fi D.I.Y version of electronica, rotor of bands. I was lucky enough to find this label through Baths , who I'm sure if you like to be on top of the music world, have been getting [...]

Teaming up with Foggy Notions singer-songwriter Adrian Crowley has co-curated a festival of music & visuals drawing on the themes of community and kinship in the arts. The festival is HOMELIGHTS . It takes place over four nights, Friday 27th of November to Monday the 30th. The line-up is pretty special, made up of comrades and inspirations to Crowley; who has been recently signed to Delgado run Scottish label Chemical Underground . His first album with them (fifth in total) Season of the Sparks will be released later this month. [...]
This week on the show, folk royalty and loop pedal loyalty. Seattle's the Dutchess & the Duke live the sound of 60s folk through and through. Their latest LP-- She's the Dutchess, He's the Duke --has a raw, lo-fi sound fueled by acoustic guitar and lazy duet vocals. After that, music from the latest Dosh album, Wolves and Wishes . This latest effort from Martin Dosh features contributions from Andrew Bird, Fog, and even Bonnie "Prince" Billy. Surprisingly enough, these guys all fit into Dosh's loop pedal-based composition style quite nicely. This LP is truly [...]
According to Wikipedia , Paavoharju is "a is a Finnish psych-folk band," and publications such as Stylus dig them. They are Finnish; their lyrics and song titles I do not understand. But psych-folk? C'mon , get serious. This album is a kaleidoscope of ideas, patched together impressively and coherently. For example, the Kylie Minogue energy drink fueled rave, "Kevatrumpu ." It greets ears with toy pianos appearing then blending in the background. A throbbing beat comes in while Finnish vocals bounce around, unsure if they want to [...]
The Needle Drop is growing up, and fast. As a result, we have some good news for everyone who has been loving the radio show, and this may also work as bad news for people who hate the radio show: The Needle Drop is getting thirty more minutes of air time in August. We'll keep you up to date on the show as to when we'll start filling a full hour of air time. The show will now be able to concentrate on more artists, more music, and more everything. [...]
Jealous Butcher Records has just re-released M. Ward's 2003 album, Transfiguration of Vincent . The label is also adding several demos to the album's vinyl pressing, and Merge Records is currently offering those additional songs for free on their site. I don't know how that works into Jealous Butcher's business model, but free songs are free songs. Here's one of the demos being added to the vinyl re-release, "Outta My Head." And you can get two more tracks here . For more info on M. Ward, visit mwardmusic.com . [...]
Marking the fourth full-length studio effort by music personality Dosh, Wolves and Wishes arrives on the scene with a conspicuous stress on irregularity and cerebral free-association. Just as the release begins to lay out the introductory components of function and presentation, Wolves and Wishes immediately supplies the listener with a dizzying racket of percussive propulsion and polyphonic color. "Don't let the Needle Drop," the LP's first track, is scuffed with a pleasantly abstract melodic character. The occasionally modally-addled layer of voicing and sequence is so emphatically pronounced that the determinative nature of [...]
As if gold were struck, every blogger and their mother is swooping down on LA's experimental rock scene these days. And the attention is specifically aimed at the Smell, an all-ages arts/performance space. Numerous bands have been getting a surprisingly positive reaction for putting their warped interpretations of pop and rock on display. And when it comes to turning pop upside down, another regular at the Smell, Abe Vigoda, is no slouch. Now, we are talking about a band. I don't know what kind of spot the LA quartet has in their hearts for the famed television and [...]
It's hard not to admire anyone who can make music revival more than an exercise in nostalgia. In this case, Seattle's the Dutchess & the Duke are bringing back the 60s folk movement with defibrillator in hand. The Dutchess & the Duke are an acoustic, singer/songwriter duo; it's a dynamic that's been tried and tried again, but the duo's ear for songwriting and lazy vocal harmonies will wipe out any hangups about the band's makeup. It's not something frightfully new or experimental, but it's done well, very well. For more info on the [...]
