There was a term in the 90s that seemed to be used to describe bands like Weezer and They Might Be Giants was "geek rock". Elephant Six lo-fi-ers The Apples in Stereo have lo-found a way into the spotlight; low-budget, silly, single-shot viral video! Don't laugh, I've heard it's worked in the past.
