Super-catchy indie-pop "greatest hits" from the Elephant 6 pioneers. Here's the thing with out-and-out pop music. It can seem superficial, temporary, a guilty pleasure. When I was kid, I loved "Yummy, Yummy, Yummy (I Got Love in my Tummy)" by the Ohio Express and "Joy to the World" by Three Dog Night. But I can't say those tunes stand up to any kind of scrutiny today. Soon enough my friends and I were beyond that stuff, listening to Led Zeppelin, through with music that was actually, you know... tuneful and fun. Not all pop is shallow. But for a [...]

There should be a good name for us, something to do with worms... if you haven't heard, there is finally a decent fan tribute album to the Apples In Stereo being worked on, called A Tribute In Stereo, and by decent I mean more than a few songs, although the quality of what I've heard is really good... I hope it doesn't dissuade other Worm-heads (eh) from plugging in their crappy Casios and using online synths and sound effects or just singing acapella with their sister in the shower, in fact I for one am really hoping to [...]
Vous êtes donc fins prêts pour The Apples In Stereo . The Apples In [...]
There was a term in the 90s that seemed to be used to describe bands like Weezer and They Might Be Giants was "geek rock". Of course, Math Rock was another term that arose in that time period as well. Both were usually used to describe the look of bands rather than the sound. If the term was used to describe the actual personality of the lead singer, then Math Rock would describe The Apples In Stereo 's Robert Schneider very well. Schneider is a self confessed math geek and his mathematical musing [...]
While not what you might expect to hear here at ThaBombShelter, I've actually been a fan of FOB since I saw the video for "Sugar We're Goin' Down" on Subterranean a few years ago (I was going to post the video, but apparently Viacom has a bug up their ass when it comes to posting music videos on YouTube...I mean, god forbid someone want to, I don't know, listen to the band's music. /rant). Anyway, I was just as surprised as anyone when I got hooked into this "emo-pop" outfit, but damn if they don't know how to [...]
Elephant Six lo-fi-ers The Apples in Stereo have lo-found a way into the spotlight; low-budget, silly, single-shot viral video! Don't laugh, I've heard it's worked in the past. Here's their take on the concept, filmed in Park City, Utah, for the Sundance Film Festival. Guess they found themselves inspired to commit their track "Same Old Drag" to motion pictures.
Are we gonna read into The Apples In Stereo's decision to follow New Magnetic Wonder's first, Elijah-directed (and anticlimactic) clip with a one-take, DIY, handy-cam backseat singalong video? No we'd never do that. The Apples filmed it while driving through...
Three cheers for seat-of-your-pants videos! You can't help but laugh along with this ridiculously DIY video that the Apples in Stereo shot in a van driving around Park City for "Same Old Drag." The band was at Sundance to perform at the Film.com launch party. New Magnetic Wonder will be released February 6.
Shot in my old stomping ground, Park City, Utah! The Apples in Stereo - Same Old Drag
It's by no means a real music video, but it's funny and low-budget enough to where I actually kind of prefer it to the one for "Energy." Shot while the Apples were driving the streets of Park City for the Sundance Film Festival, here's the world's best air band. Check out ...
