Clock Opera have appeared from relative obscurity, to produce their debut album ‘Ways To Forget,’ a beautifully crafted record. I think – no, I know - that people are going to enjoy it. From first listen, Clock Opera most definitely occupy that most odious of genres for me, synthy, indie-poppy, squealy, joyous rubbish. I first heard Clock Opera back in 2010 when they released a lively upbeat single called 'A Piece Of String'. Lead singer Guy Connelly's slightly quavering vocals were just gorgeous and the mix of real instruments and samples gave them a unique twist to their indie rock sound. So I was pleased to hear that the band are due to release their debut LP 'White Noise' in April 2012. What’s striking about “Belongings,” the new single from Clock Opera, is how patient it is in its escalating progression of piano riffs, synths and pulsing rhythms.  The build-up doesn’t reach its feverish peak until the 3:46 mark, well past the halfway point of the song.  Thankfully, it’s all so beautifully orchestrated and complemented by Guy Connelly’s wistful vocals that it certainly evokes the longing in “Belonging.”  Listen to it now by checking out the accompanying video here (a nice mishmash of visual eyecandy that’s sure to draw comparisons with The Graduate, 2001 and Gondry’s video for [...]

Belongings by Clock Opera first came to us back in March ( here ) and with the single now out there via Moshi Moshi they have released a video to accompany the song. Starting with a slow rising gracefulness and ending in a kaleidoscopic explosion the video is a perfect visual accompaniment to the tune, following its structure and progression. "Belongings" by Clock Opera , directed by Andy West.  Reminds me so much of Elbow , quite a beautiful track and video.  The kaleidoscopic effect unfortunately evokes images of flooding but features some striking images that really complement the layered build of this song.  The track is the newest single from the band, available on 73 at Moshi Moshi .  Glad I came across this, found here .
