Who doesn't love a music festival, right? It's all the best parts of a concert–music, friends, alcohol and drugs…just lots and lots more of them! Each year, more and more of them are popping up all over the place. Whether or not you already know, Fun Fun Fun will be launching it's 6th annual event, one of the most diverse line ups ever! Fun Fun Fun Fest (FFF) is an independent genre based festival, known as one of the most relaxed, creative, and pioneering festivals in music today. FFF is a fest that [...]
My first blog post a few years back for We Are Not a Rock Band was about We Were Promised Jetpacks. I had heard just one song and thought it was incredible. Their debut album had yet to be released and it seemed they were a little known secret I had discovered, confident they wouldn't be a secret for long.I was wrong, and two years later it seems that they're still relatively unknown. This is
SXSW finally came to a close in Austin, TX on Sunday. Two days later, I finally made it home and had a chance to piece together the week (thanks Twitter!). Here's this year's recap of a badgeless show-goer. Hit – Longbranch Inn Impose Magazine owned the Inn for three nights. In a mostly Brooklyn band showcase on Wednesday, Nashvillians JEFF the Brotherhood stood above the rest very literally, as they brought their set to a climax [...]

Fitting somewhere in between Frightened Rabbit and The Twilight Sad, We Were Promised Jetpacks have gained a lot of praise and respect in the last couple of years. Having been discovered after Fat Cat Records were checking out some of the friends of Frightened Rabbit on MySpace, they've since gone on to support Frightened Rabbit, release their debut album ("These Four Walls") and an EP, appear at many a festival and do their own tour of the U.K. and the U.S., and that's just in the last 9 months. Their sound can be compared to Frightened Rabbit and [...]
A list of shows that you won't want to miss this weekend
With this feature, we give you a heads-up as to what's around the corner (apart from album releases) that Thrash Hits readers might wanna wrap their earlobes around... Starting with DVD releases, this month sees the much anticipated Nirvana - Live at Reading unleashed on 02 November. The DVD will allow an insight into the most infamous Reading Festival performance ever. That's got to be worth a punt. Also, Canadian thrashers Annihilator release Live At Masters Of Rock on DVD, filmed in the [...]
Editors - "Papillon" Many dudes running their asses off all around Los Angeles at night. This very synth heavy (sounding like early 80's Depeche Mode) first single is from their third album titled "In This Light and On This Evening" coming out October 13th. We Were Promised Jetpacks - "Quiet Little Voices" A nice performance video from these 4 Scottish lads [...]
I'm Young Again: Glasgow's best named new band We Were Promised Jet Packs (sorry Eeeonbeeon! ) released their debut These Four Walls this past June and got a slight case of the bends from the sudden explosive growth and expectations that come with being a hot band in today's fast paced 5 hour energy Drink world : "When I was standing tuning my guitar in New York, the thought of 'what [...]

"My body it was black and blue" For some reason I really really want to go to Scotland. Not sure why...I mean England and Ireland and Wales don't do it for me. But Scotland, WOOOOAH! So it makes me happy to hear some sweet tunes coming out of this nation-which-i-love. We Were Promised Jetpacks were formed in Edinburgh (my favourite Scottish city) but now live in Glasgow (my least favourite Scottish city, though it is fun to say)*. The music is at times beautifully simple and then surprises you with [...]

Overall, as a debut for the young Scotsmen of We Were Promised Jetpacks , These Four Walls is a good album. But, alas, not a great one. Maybe my hopes were too high since I absolutely love "Quiet Little Voices" and "Ships With Holes Will Sink". My biggest problem with the album are the repetitive lyrics that too oft seem more like just choruses. It's not quite what we were promised, pun intended, but it's a good start. Don't write these guys off one bit. [...]

WE WERE PROMISED JETPACKS/// THESE FOUR WALLS /// FAT CAT RECORDS /// WORDS: AARON COULTATE /// My first introduction to heavily accented Scottish pop/rock came when, like many Australian kids who grew up in the early 90s, I was made to listen to the Proclaimers in my parent's car. By the time I was 17 I even had a Proclaimers Australian tour shirt, worn without any evident sense of irony despite the fact I would have been about three years old when said tour took place. So when I heard young Edinburgh [...]
So, let's see here ... we have another promising Scottish band on FatCat Records , home of The Twilight Sad and Frightened Rabbit . Yeah, I think I can get behind this. Much as I wanted to hate the name, it's kinda clever. But what came first? The band name or this Threadless T-shirt ? We Were Promised Jetpacks | Quiet Little Voices

WWPJ - "Quiet Little Voices" Single Out Tomorrow As stated before , Scottish quartet We Were Promised Jetpacks will release their debut single "Quiet Little Voices" tomorrow on FatCat Records . According to the band's press release through their fans' mailing list, "it's the first time that people can buy our music and our mums and dads are very excited."
