Last week, Blur 's official website hinted at the release of a new song titled "The Puritan" on July 2nd at 7:15pm GMT, and now the mystery has been unveiled. On July 2nd, the UK outfit will debut both "Under the Westway" and "The Puritan" during a worldwide webcast streaming exclusively on Twitter. Afterwards, the two songs will be available digitally and on August 6th a limited 7" single will be released via Parlophone. The entirety of the webcast will take place at an undisclosed location in London that evening, with proceedings kicking off [...]
Ever since they reunited for a series of performances in 2009, Blur have been teasing us with talk of a new album that would only happen if all the stars aligned and their fans mentioned it in their prayers every night (or something). But in the three years that followed, they only released one new song, the 2010 Record Store Day single "Fool's Day." Britpop legends Blur are taking to twitter to debut two 'never before performed to the public' tracks. The new tracks were written especially for the bands upcoming sold out show in Hyde Park, 'Under The Westway' and 'The Puritan' were penned by frontman Damon Albarn for the special show to celebrate the London 2012 Olympics, "I wrote these songs for Hyde Park and I’m really excited about getting out there and playing them for people." Blur have finally revealed this morning what all their recent cryptic Twitter and Facebook messages mean - they're going to be performing their two new tracks, 'Under The Westway' (6.15pm) and 'The Puritan' (7.15pm), live on a London rooftop on 2nd July. They're not revealing the location, but they are planning on streaming the event online. Have a look at Alex revealing the news in the video above.
