Not to suggest that there won't be legions of people w/ bad taste in music who will LOVE this song, but this song is a horrible retread of the once genuinely moving "We Are the World." Recently when logging into my twitter, I found out that " Haiti " was a trending topic. Other words like "Earthquake" and "Wyclef" were also popular topics as well. After doing some googling with bing.com, I found out that there was an Earthquake that had 'torn up' Haiti . The mildly anticipated retread of Michael Jackson & Lionel Richie's landmark "We Are The World" -- with 21st century flashes in the pan and abundant Auto-Tune in place of Bruce/Tina/Stevie/Willie/etc -- hit YouTube over the weekend. Let me be clear. The sentiment behind the remake of "We Are The World" to benefit makes perfect sense. No doubt the hearts of the organizers and artists involved are in the right place. Of course we all want to see the people of Haiti rebuild their lives, and they need our money and awareness. When you open a supposedly star-studded video like We Are the World 25 for Hait with Usher 's 12-year-old protégé, I think it says something about the sad nature of pop music in the 21st century. But hey, at least folks are still exploiting Michael Jackson after his death. I don't know what's worse - the fact that the total cost of this video was probably far more than the amount of aid it'll raise for Haiti, or that Brian Wilson was standing next to a Jonas.
