Something mellow and different if you like trip hop/ ambient/ electro along the lines of Portishead, Massive Attack by Gayngs called Cry, lower the lights and put on the candles!
LYKKE LI, GRIMES ( Wonder Ballroom , 128 NE Russell) One of the more successful in the recent string of blonde, fashionable pop singers exported out of Sweden (hey, they don't let just anyone shill for Levi's), Lykke Li is back touring on her latest, Wounded Rhymes , another round of moody, bittersweet club numbers. It's sold out, so try your luck at the door or on Craigslist. MARJORIE SKINNER FITZ AND THE TANTRUMS, LEROY BELL AND HIS ONLY FRIENDS, BUSHWALLA, [...]
On " Calgary ," Justin Vernon's vocals lay in a cloud of gloomy synths and anxious electric guitar tones, suggesting a sonic shift from the grainy For Emma formula. But not too much has changed - the ghostly falsetto remains Bon Iver's calling card. JV's voice has also been unmistakable on recent collaborations (GAYNGS, Volcano Choir, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy ) and an asset when he takes on someone else's song. So I'm especially looking forward to the "Calgary" 123 b-side, a combined cover of two Bonnie Raitt classics, "I Can't Make You Love Me" > [...]
Look, we know we can't pretend like we'll be able to see everything at SXSW. There are something like 2,000 bands scheduled to perform, and there's literally no way to catch everything. You can pore over the list of performing bands a hundred times, and never quite get an accurate list of what you want to see. And not to mention all the bands you can discover at SXSW through random circumstances. With that in mind, here's our list of 10 bands that are can't miss at SXSW. These are the bands we're most [...]

Ryan Olson of Gayngs Gayngs plays the kind of syrupy soft rock you might hear at your dentist's office -if your dentist wanted to seduce you. If their music were any cheesier or any more retro, it would be served in a fondue pot. In their embrace of soft rock, Gayngs joins a movement that revitalizes maudlin, corny, or passe music from the 1970s and 80s. If bands like Chromeo and The Hundred in the Hands wear their retro influences on their sleeves; Gayngs trumpets theirs on a neon billboard. [...]

Ah, the indie-rock super-group. A wonderful idea that is fraught with danger. Thank heavens for Ryan Olson, who is the mastermind behind Gayng. With a little help from his friends (Justin Vernon and Mike Noyce from Bon Iver, Solid Gold members Zack Coulter and Adam Hurlburt along with a plethora of genius musicians) they've created our favorite album of 2010. Period. Blissfully impossible to classify with traditional genre-labeling, it is the perfect album to listen to while staring at the stars on a hot summer night. Or while driving on a desolate road in the [...]
Gayngs - Cry (via mitchelinmilwaukee )
Music video for "Cry" by the Minneapolis-based collective Gayngs from the band's debut album "Relayted."
Gayngs produce a debut that lets its melodic accessiblity compliment its denser qualities. Gayngs have got emotional baggage; they want you to feel what they're feeling and they'll convey it to you in whatever way works for you. It would be easy to classify Relayted as part of the Glo Fi movement, but it owes more to the new age of Enigma and the woozy jazz of early Portishead. While many atmospheric bands of late seem to shy away from any remotely commercial sounds, Gayngs have produced a...

There's been no shortage of new videos around these parts the last few days, so in the name of efficiency (and playing favorites) we've gone ahead and rounded up those that have particularly caught our eyes and ears within, oh, say the last 48 hours or so. We already know Gayngs is over-the-top. Their promo videos are salacious, bordering on parody. Their music is so wrong it's right. And now, in their first official music video, they paid tri...
For their cover of Godley and Creme's "Cry", Gayngs paid visual homage to the soft rock duo's original video with one of their own. In addition to just about everyone in the Gayngs orbit, the clip also includes a cameo from Kevin Godley himself. Awesome for a dozen reasons at least, it also allows you to get a really good look at people you don't know without feeling like you're staring. For once!
