Friends ' newest track and video for 'Mind Control' is a trippy, primal, psyche-disco ride, and is fresh off it's premiere on the NOISEY Youtube Channel. Friends unveiled the video for their new single "Mind Control" yesterday on the Noisey YouTube channel, and today via outlets worldwide. Shot by Hiro Murai (St. Vincent, Scissor Sisters, Usher), the clip combines band performance, action footage, and special effects, in a rhythmic montage cut to the Paul Epworth mixed track. The band pays reverent homage to dystopian Sci-Fi films from the '80s (They Live, Brainstorm, Scanners). The members take themselves less seriously in various roles in an apparently sinister brainwashing plot, evocative of the song's over-the-top lyrical message ("Hold holy [...]

Both Mafia Lights ( facebook / twitter ) and Amusement ( facebook / twitter ) have been Bands to watch on these very pages, so it's a lovely suprise that the two of them have come together on this track. I loved Mafia Lights' original West with its skittish rhythms and summer tones (hear it below), but Amusement have slowed it into a lush dream sequence. The upbeat summery tones of the original have been transformed into something much smoother, subtler, and utterly blissed-out. [...]

Friends - “Mind Control”

Here is the video for "Mind Control," the first single from BTW Friends' first full-length album. Director Hir Muria conjures a dystopian vision which is part retro (espionage via reel-to-reel tapes and LED-lit countdown machines) and part futuristic (faces that split open to reveal other faces with pierced septums), which is not a bad fit for their slinky Bushwick post-disco. The band's all here, though it's lead singer Samantha Urbani the camera loves most, alongside some stolen moments by Etienne Pierre Duguay, formerly drummer of Real Estate, presently Friends video cameo artist. While fairly disappointed by their live show on a few occasions, Friends' recorded output has managed to deliver twice - the great single "I'm His Girl" and today's track "Mind Control." While not as good as the former - there's a lot to love here. We expect some label news soon from this camp, but for now enjoy the two tracks we do have.

Directed by Hiro Murai, the clip lives up to its name with scenes of a brainwashed media, an evil guy in a suit, and a robot with a camera for its head. Watch it below.
