One of the most instructive things at Glastonbury are the snatches of conversation you catch as you move around the site. It’s like an early beta of Twitter, only less banal. The average festival-goer would do well to have this mind when incoherently explaining that Glastonbury is bigger than the music or how wonderful its vibe is. Like Twitter, these brief bites of semi-formed thought represent a zeitgeist of sorts. I can’t think of a more concise description of the festival than the one offered by a gentleman who cheerfully exclaimed, ‘I’m inside a festival!’ when on the phone [...]

Every time I look at one of these videos, I'm reminded that our music festivals that we have here in the States are gatherings, and festivals, i.e., Reading and Glastonbury overseas are MUSIC FESTIVALS. These are very preliminary highlights of Glastonbury 2010, and look for more later in the day and tomorrow. Thom Yorke + Jonny Greenwood did a surprise set with no new material and Florence joined the XX on stage. Lastly, Muse & the Edge joined forces to play "Where the Streets Have No Name". the XX + Florence Welch-You Got [...]

Glastonbury has become the official festival I must experience before I die. Muse performing with The Edge and a blistering set from Gorillaz would be enough to make me go but a special surprise performance from the greatest band of all time would have made me jump on the next flight out. Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood of Radiohead appeared on the Park Stage after festival organizer Michael Eavis introduced them as the biggest surprise of the event (via At Ease ). Yorke, dressed like the hairest tennis player ever, [...]

Note to America: This is what a crowd singalong looks like. Thom and Jonny played a surprise set at the Glastonbury Festival today, with no new songs from Radiohead's almost-done LP8 but - considering the response - still obviously a treat. This is the first video; we'll update if we see more. (Today's Twitter rumor is that Thom has magically made it across the Atlantic to New York's Vice-sponsored Creators Project with M.I.A., Sleigh Bells, etc., but I'll wait for the YouTubes.)
