With Valtari , these Icelanders may have pushed their dream-pop/post-rock formula to its final point. Where can Sigur Rs go after pushing the very limits of beautiful? If you were to look through the majority of reviews written about Sigur Rs, a noticeable pattern of adjectives begins to emerge. As my PopMatters colleague humorously pointed out earlier this year, "glacial" is one word you're likely to find in every other review, if not every one. Some others might be "cinematic", "expansive", "lush", or any like synonym. In my reading, the one I've encountered the most is the simplest, [...]

For those looking for the epic Sigur Ros concert of old, you will not be disappointed, as according to Jonsi, the group is bringing an entire orchestra on their tour. Sigur Ros' new album [...]

This week saw the release of the new Santigold album, which has been four years in the making, although somehow it seems a lot longer. While we're not entirely sold on Master of My Make-Believe , it did get us thinking about the fact that 2012 is shaping up as a good year for ticking off the list of long-awaited records that will (hopefully) be arriving at last. After the jump, we've pulled together a selection of 10 albums for which we've been waiting far too long — shit, some of them have been pending [...]

As I turned in my first term paper today I had the horrifying realization that I only have about a month left in my undergraduate studies. This seems like it must be a joke, but instead of hiding under my bed and pretending I'm still in first year like I want to, I'll just distract myself with some sick new songs and videos. First up is a new video from Sigur Ros called "Ekki Mukk." This track is an early single off of their upcoming album "Valtari," which will be released on May 28th. These guys are always [...]
