They make the music, you provide the cash – that’s the deal for bands using crowd-funding sites. But, other than the gift of music, what are bands willing to give in return for your money? What would it take to persuade you to help fund the creation of a band’s album? Would the promise of a CD perhaps open your wallet? Maybe some memorabilia might do the trick? Or do you crave more than that? You’ll stop just short of wanting their soul, but a signed photo [...]
Emma-Lee Moss, aka Emmy the Great , is one of those artists whose music creeps up on you, seemingly unassuming in its soft-spoken approach, only to leave you aware you've become hopelessly ensnared in its complexity without even realizing it. The UK-based singer/songwriter's second album, Virtue , is a strikingly poetic rumination on mythology, spiritualism, and lost love, rooted strongly in modern folk and fleshed out with intricate pop orchestration. In our latest interactive video interview, Emmy recalls her time singing backing vocals with Florence Welch for Lightspeed Champion [...]

"A Woman, A Woman, A Century of Sleep" By Emmy The Great. It wasn’t quite love at first listen with regard to Emmy The Great’s debut album ‘ First Love’, purely because we’d become smitten with Emmy’s oeuvre long before her debut. She was probably one of the first artists we’d discovered via myspace (remember that kids? Back in the day before Murdoch’s money poisoned the well rendering it completely unusable?) We were drawn to her wit, her natural melody, her poetic lyricism and her idiosyncratic musings. So in a sense, [...]

SINGLE OF THE WEEK Nicola Roberts - 'Beat Of My Drum' (Polydor) Always the most interesting one in Girls Aloud, Nicola Roberts isn't daft. Fully aware that the best pop music takes risks (and Girls Aloud took lots of risks), she has drafted in Diplo and Dimitri Tokovoi to produce her debut solo single, and the result is demented and delightful in equal measure. While some will be drawn to the clever, self-referential lyric ("Don't it make your heart go 'wow'/ How I turned the whole thing round"), what elevates 'Beat Of My Drum' above all [...]
"Iris" comes to us from Londoner and über -witty, ultra charming indie popster Emma-Lee Moss -- aka the conquering alias Emmy the Great -- and her fan-funded June 14 U.K. album Virtue . Working with noted producer Gareth Jones (Grizzly Bear), Moss dresses up her previously lo-fi songs in a colorful wardrobe of hipster thriftstore duds, a kitchen sink approach that accentuates the playfulness of her approach. As "Iris" unfurls in retro pop glory, we smile, wondering where Phil Spector might have taken this. As it is, it's pretty, [...]

There's been some amazing videos popping up on the interweb in the last few weeks. So many in fact we thought the best thing to do was to handily collate them all in one place for you to save your tired fingers from googling them yourselves. DON'T LET THE FINGERS TIRE! JAMES VINCENT MCMORROW - SPARROW AND THE WOLF Having stunned us all when James played O!IW last year, we're unsurprised to see him doing so well. This video is pretty eerie, but we like it. [...]
Ooh, this is lovely - a new video from the great Emmy The Great: That's Iris, off of Virtue , which comes out the Monday after next. -- Visit No Rock & Roll Fun to comment, complain and kvetch

"Virtue" é o novo álbum de Emmy The Great com edição prevista para 13 de Junho, 'Iris', o novo single, será editado a 6 de Junho. Realização: Derek Andrade

Virtue , the second album from London-based singer Emmy The Great, is due for release on June 13th in the UK and will be followed by a US release in August. We've already reviewedd the lead single "A Woman, A Woman, A Century of Sleep" and even spoken to Emmy about the album, so we're pretty excited for it. "Iris" sounds more lighthearted than "Century of Sleep" (although lyrically it is typically tense) and has a summery video of Emmy playing with a young girl and stop-motion scrablle sets writing out the lyrics. Watch below. [...]
