Phoenix's "1901" has been one of my favorite singles of the year so far, and I know it's going to be on my favorites list at the end of the year. One of the great things about living in the year 2009 is that every great single comes with some great remixes. Many more mediocre remixes, but there are always some good ones if you dig deep enough. These two both fell right in to my lap, and I'm so glad they did. I'm not sure any version of this track could surpass the originals greatness to me, but [...]

The last time I saw sun inflected popsters Phoenix was at the inaugural V Festival and I could of sworn it started raining as soon as they stopped playing. Anyway the band preview new track "Lisztomania" on a Seth Rogan hosted SNL and though it's more of the same I don't think I'll ever get sick of it. Thomas Mars pulls the same lovelorn, cute as a button, coy Frenchman with the voice of an angel act that makes knees weak. Ladies be swooning.
So I've been on a bit (a lot) of a Phoenix kick lately, revisiting 2006's It's Never Been Like That in light of the undeniable pop perfection of their new single "19013 (from the forthcoming Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart ). A note to anyone feeling down: cue up some Phoenix and submit to the peppy poppiness, or poppy peppiness, whatever, you can't escape it either way. Anyway, this past Saturday night brought new goodies to savor, namely an uncharacteristically great sounding mix on Saturday Night Live and THREE live tunes from Phoenix. We've got [...]
Video: Phoenix "Lisztomania", "1901"

Last Saturday, French band Phoenix was the musical guest on NBC's Saturday Night Live and performed a few songs from their forthcoming album, the highly anticipated Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix (due out May 26th). Check out video of their performances of "Lisztomania" and "1901″ at the end of the post. We've featured their song "1901″ in a couple previous posts, including a look at a remix done by UltraChorus. I gotta say, there have been so many remixes done of this song that I can't keep them all straight anymore… does mass remixing equal a hit song? [...]

Did you see Phoenix on SNL this past weekend? One of the better performances I've seen on SNL this season, considering how poor the performances have been (not because of the performers though...one bad performance is one thing, but a string of them means a problem with the show), so that either means that Phoenix are that great live or SNL sound guys finally got their shit together. The standard format for any blog post recapping the musical guests from Saturday Night Live is to say how bad the mixing was and that the sketches were awful, and certainly Seth Rogen's rough time playing any character that isn't largely just like Seth Rogen and one of my least favorite tracks from The Lonely Island's Incredibad serving as the bed for the digital short didn't help the comedy situation. But the sound on the two and a half Phoenix appearances weren't too bad. Add Bill Hader 's Gizmo impression [...]
Premier groupe français à être invité sur la scène du Saturday Night Live , me dit-on. Eh bien j'trouve qu'ils ont plutôt cassé la baraque nos compatriotes, vous trouvez pas ? :)) Votre avis ? Note: There is a rating embedded within this post, please visit this post to rate [...]
Not a lot of bands can say that they did three songs on Saturday Night Live in one evening. Well, count Phoenix as one of them. Although one of them, "Too Young" was during closing credits, the other two were...

McCartney, U2, Coldplay, and now Phoenix are among the acts who've been asked to play three songs on an episode of Saturday Night Live . I suspect only the French synth-rockers' overtime was born of a lack of air-able sketches. Which is not to say the closing credits performance of nine-year-old soundtrack hit "Too Young" wasn't delightful. But it was hardly worth having to sit through another interminable Obama open. From the new album Phoenix did "Lisztomania" and "1901," both excellent tunes. I like how they dress like hip English TAs. [...]
DOWNLOAD: Phoenix - 1901 (MP3) Phoenix sounded great as the musical guest on Saturday Night Live this weekend. Huffington Post points out the band is from France - not Brooklyn , and they know that because: *The adorable lead singer's shirt was slightly pressed like he'd picked it up from the cleaners and yet he still wore it in a laid-back, pass me the carafe, way--a clean, casual, style belonging to the French. They do casual like we dress [...]
As mentioned before , there were two great Saturday Night Live music performances by Phoenix last night, and they're provided for you viewing pleasure below (until NBC yanks them down from YouTube). Both songs, "Lisztomania" and "1901", sound awesome live, and both can be found on their newest album Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix , which drops on May 25, 2009. Enjoy!

Phoenix - 1901 on SNL- 4/4 It wasn't since MMJ's appearance that I was more excited to see a band play SNL. Phoenix played last night and I have to say I was disappointed. Phoenix's new album, Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix, comes out in May and is absolutely fantastic. It just didn't translate to the stage, at least not on SNL. At times it seemed forced and was mildly uncomfortable to watch. I'm still looking forward to the album, but won't be heartbroken if they don't stop near Louisville (although, I will be there if [...]
Any y'all see SNL this week? I neglected to watch it, but it boasted the only tantalizing music-host combo I've wanted to watch in a long time, as Seth Rogen hosted and French rockers Phoenix provided the jams. The band has a new record coming out in May, Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix , that boasts a handful of really great songs, two of them being "1901" and "Lisztomania," the two songs Phoenix played yesterday. The band's relatively airy sonics provided little for the SNL sound engineers, who have taken their lumps recently, [...]
