St. Vincent’s (aka Annie Clark) intelligent, alternative indie rock touches on the timeless musical novelty that started creeping out of Brit-‐rock in the late ’60s from acts such as Bowie and Abbey Road-‐era Beatles while combining it with the same ‘anything goes’ sensibilities of Kurt Vile and Ariel Pink. After touring most of the States, [...]
It's not too soon to start building your playlist for Coachella. Or, if you're lazy, just check back with us as we count down the next 29 days to the festival!

I picked this one because it's in the vein of Massive Attack and Portishead, and every once in a while that's exactly what I need. I also picked it because it's fun to sometimes irritate Trip.
So it looks like the fact that Coachella is taking place on consecutive weekends is going to serve up a ... Read the full article at http://www.prefixmag.com/news/ st-vincent-and-tune-yards-team -up-for-west-coast-s/60513/

These are the albums that, at one time or another (or constantly!), gave me solace and smiles in 2012. 30. Austra - Feel It Break 29. Beirut - The Rip Tide [...]
Partly because I'm horrified by the absence of Tom Waits in my year-end albums and songs and shows lists, I was compelled to compile another list that would include the great man. 1. Bill Wells & Aidan Moffat- "Copper Top" (above) I identify with every moment. 2. Spoek Mathambo- "Control" Terrifying. 3. Tyler, the Creator- "Yonkers" A nihilistic star is born. 4. ASAP Rocky- "Purple Swag" Can't. Stop. Watching. [...]

2011 was an interesting year for music. Great sounds were thankfully everywhere- but songs, as opposed to albums, became suddenly more memorable. While there is no doubt that 2011 was an exciting time for full-length releases, more and more artists seemed to be embracing the idea of the single and crafting an album around it. Due to this apparent evolution, I will be counting down my top 100 songs of 2011. The rules are simple- obviously the track must have first been released in this current year. Also, no one album can have more than three songs make an appearance. [...]

Louise Quinn is a singer/ songwriter with A Band Called Quinn . She has sung on several Kid Loco albums & he joins her on forthcoming single 'Oh Jackie' to be released on Tromolo Records in the New Year alongside the band's much anticipated new album Red Light Means Go. The band have three tracks featured on Series 2 of Lip Service which airs on BBC3 this spring. Here are her thoughts on the top 5 albums of 2011; I've not sought out any new music this year but through the ether certain albums have [...]
I can't even pretend to offer a comprehensive list anymore. When I was a newspaper music critic, I tried to keep up with most everything. But life gets in the way, and these days I find myself much less willing to give things a chance. Hook me immediately or be ...

We gave you our list of the best albums of 2011 , but by now, one thing should be perfectly clear: the single rules. Instead of buying full albums, more and more people are picking out their favorite songs, dishing out 99 cents on iTunes, and putting together playlists of all their favorites. In some ways, it's a sad departure from whatever connection people used to have with albums, but it's part of who we are—an ADD generation of instant gratification-seeking consumers. And fuck, do we consume. Nobody here at P&P has ever been in a situation [...]

Today we begin rolling out the results of this year's Gummy Awards : The only set of lists which are perfectly impervious to comment section backlash as they are voted upon by you, the esteemed Shut Up, Dude / Monsters' Ball electorate. Up first is 20112s Top 10 Tracks. The results may shock you! And they may not! It depends on how you voted, really. In any event, the ten-track spread fairly reflects the guitar/pop/rap/Del Rey year we had. Here we go: Read More...
The annual apocalypse is nigh, wherein critics celebrate the end of the year with a debaucherous amount of self-important analysis on the previous twelve months in music. I am among the many to ... Music videos accomplish what has never been done before in the history of media: They make experimentation a commercial enterprise. They afford musicians, filmmakers, and multimedia artists the chance to have their craziest ideas not only produced, but shown to a large audience. What's more, in the age of Internet video, indie productions are now on equal footing with million-dollar productions. There's no visual medium more diverse or creative than music videos. Thirty years after the launch of MTV, the format is not only alive and well, but it's matured, expanded, and become a part of our global culture. When [...]
