I'm going to be a mainstream whore today. --- I love Kaiser Chiefs. There, I said it. They're fun, and their songs are a little different than what is out there right now. Their single, Ruby ," is perfect for singing along in the car. Yay Kaiser Chiefs. --- [...]
From NME.com : Kaiser Chiefs have snubbed the chance to play the Diana: Princess of Wales memorial concert because they feel it would be "hypocritical" to appear at the commemorative event. The band also accused a host of the bands set to appear at the gig, which will mark the 10th anniversary of Diana's death, of using the event to sell more records. "It's fine if you're doing something like Live8, which is raising awareness or events that raise awareness over green issues. That's all right," said singer Ricky Wilson. [...]

Unfortunately, the Kaiser Chiefs' second LP is summed up most concisely by one of its own tracks: "Everything Is Average Nowadays". Indeed it is, including the world of mainstream British rock.
Here's a another great tune from across the water that has struck my fancy as of late. Kaiser Chiefs ' new single 'Ruby:'
Kaiser Chiefs have a new single out. You've probably heard it. Kaiser Chiefs- Ruby The single released, uh, today on CD. Like most singles, it has some b-sides. And like most b-sides, I have them for you. Actually, I believe the CD has one b-side, and the 7-inch has a different b-side. From the CD... Kaiser Chiefs- From The Neck Down And from [...]
I know, I know... I need to stop jocking all the UK bands, but it seems like almost all the new music I'm listening to is from somewhere within the land of Mary Poppins. This time it's The Earlies ... a Beatles meet Pink Floyd cocktail with a splash of electronic noise. Not too much, but just enough to give them a polished sound. They just released a new record (their second) that was just released January 29th called "The Enemy Chorus". Right now they're on touring the UK and Europe, but as soon as [...]
As I strolled down the corridor to a hall of sounds, sights and fat emo kids, I open the door to a smell that is not so familiar. The usually smoke infested House Of Blues was eerily smoke free, and left me to wonder if it was because the majority of the audience was too young to purchase a pack of smokes. After taking in a deep breath of fresh air (filled with man funk and cheap perfume), I made a beeline to the bar and ordered a couple of Irish Car Bombs that <sarcasm>only</sarcasm> cost $30 including a $3 [...]
I don't usually post on things outside of the music world, but I heard about this story tonight, and after laughing my pants off, decided to sit down and share it with you. In what was the "biggest security threat since 9/11", an Aqua Teen Hunger Force marketing campaign went horribly wrong and scared the bejesus out of half the people in Bean town. Almost a dozen electronic blinking billboards (kinda like those Lite-Brites you had as a kid) portraying an Aqua Teen Hunger Force cartoon character were mistaken for bombs. The suspicious ads [...]
How many bands do you know that can make a video that'd make the Blue Man Group jealous (without any blue), Fetishists smile, hipsters dance and bomb builders giggle with delight? I know of at least one, and their name is Snowden . The music video for Like Bullets is packed full of snazzy tunes, baldheaded androgynous beings with projections on their blank skin and exploding heads of aforementioned androgynous figures. I'm actually a bit disturbed after watching this video and I will have nightmares for weeks on end, but I thought I'd spread the cheer. Enjoy!

What happened to We'll All Float On? The new Modest Mouse record is coming out soon and I am as giddy as a 10 year old at a Gwen Stefani concert. Their fifth full-length album, We Were Dead Before The Ship Even Sank , is set to release March 20th through Epic Records. Apparently, if you pre-order the new album on iTunes now, you get an advanced download of their first single "Dashboard" which has been on infinite repeat in my apartment since 1:00 pm. They are streaming the song on [...]
This is officially the 100th post for Badical Beats. 100 posts in 30 days.... not bad. Here is a sweet little video I found of The Blow playing the FADER stage at CMJ last November. The sound and lighting are not spectacular, and the room looks like something out of a press release from Al Qaede, but the performance is fun and... what's the word.... organic. So, in celebration of our 100th post, enjoy the live video for "True Affection" from The Blow's latest record, Paper Television .
You can get just about anything you want with a name like Architecture in Helsinki . Respect. Fame. Money. Hot girls with big bootys (like the ones in the Chingy videos). With all that, inking a nice record deal should be easy as pie. The electronic band (from the Sphinx, Egypt) just got off the road with Clap Your Hands Say Yeah , and plan on gracing one of the many stages at the SXSW music conference in March. [...]
It's a sad day in the drizzly, cloud-covered city of Seattle. After five years, three records, and one too many tours in a van, indie-rockers Pretty Girls Make Graves are finished. I only started getting into these guys recently, and it seems as though I might have brought them a stroke of bad luck. Anywho, here is what they had to say about the breakup: "We are sorry to announce that our upcoming tour in May well be our last. Nick quit the band and the rest of us [...]

All my friends at Capitol Records got laid off today. They were caught in the crossfire of EMI Music's merger between Capital Records and Virgin Records . I hear they're moving the headquarters to New York, which means the fate of the famous Capitol Records building in Hollywood is up in the air. Other kills included CEO Andy Slater (resigned), Alain Levy (chairman and CEO of EMI) and David Munns (vice chairman of EMI). The next question for the new company (now called Capitol Music Group ) [...]
