#10.4 - Grizzly bear - The Knife
One more Grizzly Bear. Here they perform "Knife" on the streets of Paris three years ago for the La Blogotheque series.

The Most Authentic/Relevant/S uccessful Artists of the Decade (The Best Albums/MP3s/Songs/Ar tists/Bands/Humans of the Decade)

The Most Authentic/Relevant/S uccessful Artists of the Decade (The Best Albums/MP3s/Songs/Ar tists/Bands/Humans of the Decade) Can't believe it's already been a decade. I'm trying to think about the person I used 2 be back in 1999. I wonder how familiar I am with that bro, or how much I respect him. Theoretically, I have grown up and become a more 'cultured' person with a developed+refined taste in all aspects of life, including my favourite music. Piecing together 'The Best Albums/Artists/Songs/Bands of the Decade' seems tricky, like some sort of existential reflection of urself. I feel like most websites that focus on music create 'best of year/decade' [...]

Grizzly Bear

Grizzly Bear Grizzly Bear is a Brooklyn based band who released their third studio album, Veckatimest , May 26, 2009 on the Warp Records label. Unlike the majority of the labels' roster ( Aphex Twin, Autechre, Jamie Lidell etc.), Grizzly Bear incorporate computers, traditional instruments and beautiful vocal harmonies reminiscent of The Beach Boys ' album Pet Sounds . The band opened up for Radiohead during the second leg of their North American tour last year. Johnny Greenwood even declared his love for [...]

Video Of The Week: Grizzly Bear

#10.4 - Grizzly bear - The Knife
Their newest record Veckatimest is one of the best of the year (check out our review of it HERE) so when we found this little ditty, we were more than excited to share it with you guys. Filmed a few years ago for the fantastic La Blogotheque site (which you should all visit HERE) the song is The Knife, taken from their second full-length record Yellow House which was released way back in 2006 (is three years ago way back?).

Grizzly Bear Find Their Essence On The Streets Of Paris [Videodrone]

#10.4 - Grizzly bear - The Knife
As longtime readers well know, Idolator has an unrivaled commitment to what's new in indie rock, which is why I'm here today discussing a two-year-old Grizzly Bear video. I don't much care for the much-blogged-about band, although for much of 2006 I was convinced Yellow House was a grower and I needed to give it more time to let my appreciation of the album as a whole match that of just Ed Droste's voice. (What else could explain all the acclaim?) But I adore the above video of the band's a cappella performance of their single "Knife" [...]

YouTube Friday

YouTube Friday Here's your weekly update of videos I've flagged on YouTube . This week I've listed three clips: new, recent, and old. First is the new Ratatat video for "Mirando." The song is pretty solid, but the video, which samples from one of my favourite John McTiernan films , is very cool. Thanks to Megan for the heads up. Second is the "viral video" for the upcoming Tropic Thunder film, which aired during the most recent MTV Movie Awards . There's a [...]

Today's Brew | Feist/ Grizzly Bear

#10.4 - Grizzly bear - The Knife
Feist with support by Grizzly Bear will be hitting the Wiltern Theater (here in LA)- tonight. A definite double bill treat, if you haven't caught either live. I've written about them both on numerous occasions, the past year or so. I also had the opportunity to see them both as they came to LA last year. Especially to catch Grizzly Bear's first show here in LA, was definitely one of the highlights of last year's many shows here. Feist contributed to this movie. [...]

i want you to know...

#10.4 - Grizzly bear - The Knife
Grizzly Bear 's show at Club Dada on Tuesday was beautiful (though I was weary by the end). I went in completely unprepared and with few expectations. I had no idea how amazing they were until I saw them perform live. The vocals, instrumentation, and harmonies are gorgeous. Yellow House was playing on my iPod a few times at work but I couldn't really get into it because I only had it on as background. I haven't devoted my full attention to it yet but after Tuesday night's performance, I'm officially on the Grizzly Bear [...]

GRIZZLY BEAR ACAPELLA IN PARIS

#10.4 - Grizzly bear - The Knife
Forgive me guys, if this is old news to you, but I just ran across this video again just now. It makes me smile everytime I see it. It is just awesome how well these guys can harmonize. It's going to be tough to get my songs of the year list together! Grizzly Bear official site Grizzly Bear on MySpace

Grizzly Bear "Knife" Acapella, Sunday Mini Mix

#10.4 - Grizzly bear - The Knife
French site La Blogothèque has been showcasing videos of indie acts the calibre of Okkervil River, Islands, and Jens Lekman, singing and gallavanting around the streets of Paris in a series dubbed Concert à emporter (Takeaway shows). Check out the above video of the four members of Grizzly Bear performing "Knife" acapella style. Also, a little late for the weekend, but here are a couple of tunes I recently rediscovered in the music library.. The World Provider - Valentine (featuring Feist) [Buy Buy [...]

Chin up, cheer up: interview with Chris Bear of Grizzly Bear

#10.4 - Grizzly bear - The Knife
It sweeps over you like a summer wave, ebbing and cresting. Or it's the soundtrack to an alien abduction, limp limbs trapped in the gravitational pull of something transcendent. Or it's a headphone dirge for a swamp of lost souls. Whatever, I don't know how to describe it. Yellow House is the kind of album that makes adjectives irrelevant but you helplessly stack them up anyway, in case one of them will stick. Here goes: gorgeous, pastoral, layered, ethereal, urgent, transportive, soulful, sweeping. It all started with a suddenly single Ed Droste [...]

I Am a Deep Sea Diver With My Fins, and Underneath Your Currents I Do Swim

#10.4 - Grizzly bear - The Knife
It's quite fitting that the coat of arms for Berlin depicts a grizzly bear because when Grizzly Bear themselves took to the stage here last Tuesday night with such ease and comfort, it was like watching them in their natural habitat. The gig started a little shakily due to some technical problems, but it was nothing that an impromptu Hot Chip cover and some sellotape couldn't fix. Hearing "Boy From School" get the Grizzly Bear treatment more than made up for the glitch in the switches. The band [...]

#10.4 - Grizzly bear - The Knife
Found this Grizzly Bear a capella version of "The Knife" when I was searching for informations about their new video for this track. Looks like they are having fun playing around green screens somewhere in Nevada . Grizzly Bear

#10.1 - Grizzly bear - Shift
For the longest time I had the constant feeling that I was behind the game as far as blogging went. I'd watch all the big blogs miraculously find incredible bands one after the other, while I scoured the internet and found barely any notable bands to call my own. I was simply regurgitating a post about a band I'd just read on four other blogs. The only band I can really remember lately finding on my own was Decomposure, and that was almost a year ago. So what gives I thought? [...]

Grizzly little thing called Love

#10.4 - Grizzly bear - The Knife
This is THE moment when a band becomes your favorite band. Well maybe not your favorite band, but my favorite band and I always like wen a situation presents you with a very specific moment. I've had three or four favorite bands all for different reasons. I listened to Grizzly Bear relentlessly over Memorial Day weekend due to being trapped in an apartment, a car, and a hotel room with their publicist Frank Neito. To say that he's in love with them is an understatement. He carried multiple cds, and has [...]

#10.4 - Grizzly bear - The Knife
Stuart Staples , ex-leader of the Tindersticks sings this vibrant song with two members of his former band . The four guys from the band Grizzly bear were locked up in a small parisian bathroom and were asked to play one of their songs . They did great : the song was so beautiful we almost forgot we were in a bathroom. [...]

Grizzly Bear In Paris

#10.4 - Grizzly bear - The Knife
There are so many reasons to love Grizzly Bear and Yellow House , and these vids are just two of 'em. Ed forwarded these along to me, recorded in Paris by French blog La Blogotheque . Capturing the guys in an apartment and on the street, giving stripped and charming versions of "Shift" (from Horn of Plenty ) and one of many Yellow standouts "Knife." Everyone that hears the new album is in agreement. Stunning stuff. Ed also gave me an advance of a collab [...]
In a street of Paris, France. The guys from Grizzly Bear didn't have any instruments with them, so they just improvised an a capella version of their new song, The Knife. We had so much fun filming them...
