This will in no way be an impartial, objective preview. I was ready to name Grimes ' latest effort Visions the "Best Album of 20123 after I heard it for the first time. Montreal's Grimes was in town for two nights this weekend, playing sold out shows at Lee's Palace . Her debut album Visions has been excitedly received around the globe and is up for the $30,000 Polaris Prize tonight. She performed with a surprisingly minimal stage set up (some fake flowers....BUBBLES! a couple girls wearing shower curtains?), though I'm not sure what I was expecting. Exceptional experimental musicians make me ecstatic. Every so often there comes a wave of really good music and an argument can be made the most recent occurrence came on January 31, 2012. It seems there is no end to the creative output of Claire Boucher. Last month, she released her third album under the moniker Grimes . Visions had quite a legacy to live up to: 2011’s EP Darkbloom was critically acclaimed and 2010 saw not one, but two full albums, Geidi Primes and Halfaxa , both of which helped to catapult Boucher into indie-music stardom. Set to perform at the Mercury Lounge and Glasslands Gallery on 23 and 24 March respectively, Grimes ’ Claire Boucher has revealed that she will be hosting her own art exhibition at East Villages’s Audio Visual Art Gallery in New York City. Taking place from 23-25 March, the show will include recent works from Boucher herself as well as fellow Canadian artists while the second night will include a silent auction presented by Refinery29 to benefit Sisters in Spirit .
