Here is the new video for Grimes ' 'Oblivion', a track off her forthcoming album 'Visions'. High school football games and monster truck rallies are not what comes to mind when you think of Claire Boucher's sweet tunes, but I think this visual proves that music through a set of headphones can take you anywhere. Claire Boucher, stage name Grimes, has said to have mentioned Jigglypuff as one of her musical influences. This makes her beyond admirable in my books. And you know what, with Grimes's candysweet, ultra-high-pitched octaves, you can really hear the similarities. The techno beats in this song balances out the feminine floweriness of the track and Boucher delivers to listeners that ever-present childhood nonchalance we could all use a little more of in these dark days ahead (read: Global Risks Report 2012 ). Oh man.. this new Grimes video makes me so happy for any number of reasons. Kind of gives you hope for the future you know? Some people give her a hard time for using such a baby voice, but I have always thought it complemented her lisp and music perfectly.
