The footage above of YYY's guitarist Nick Zinner joining The Raconteurs for a rousing rendition of Broken Boy Soldier at a recent NYC show was incentive enough for me to try and answer the unanswerable. What was the ultimate supergroup? Ladies and Gentleman, I think I have found the definitive answer... All it takes is an inability to "play" your songs live, a couple of professional impersonators, a backing track, a [...]
I was wistfully YouTubing Justice today after missing the French electro-dance duo at Denver's Ogden Theatre last Saturday night. After misunderestimating my ability to finagle my name onto the list, I found myself standing on a street corner in the snow , talking to a homeless man named Malcolm who was trying to hustle a few tickets. Malcolm tried to find me something but I wasn't willing to drop sixty bucks. It was a sad hour in Fuel/Friends history. It's okay, though, because I probably wasn't dressed nearly hip enough - [...]
10. Peter, Bjorn & John feat. Victoria Vergsman "Young Folks" from Late Night with Conan O'Brien 01/29/2007 Does anyone remember the embarrassingly unimportant issue of Peter, Bjorn & John using a whistle track during their live performances? 'Round the turn of the new year, just as the band was breaking the American market, things got a bit out of control on the matter. Idolator got in on the matter wittingly coining it "whistlegate." Then-Idolator editor Brian Raferty mocked, "clearly, this is just the sort of important, generation-defining debate that will shape the [...]
Best idea for a performance, ever.

I was already pretty sure the Justice show tomorrow night at Holocene was gonna be nuts (it's sold out, for one thing), but this clip from Jimmy Kimmel has me even more excited. How excited? The show's on Thursday, but...
It's going to be everywhere else in a minute, so it might as well be here now: YouTube video of Justice's " D.A.N.C.E. " performed 'live' on Jimmy Kimmel . And when I say 'live', I mean by a group of impersonators - Justice turn it on, then Stevie Wonder, Rod Stewart, Prince, Rick James and a red-leather-jacketed Michael Jackson turn it the fuck out. Lots of people are hating on it, but I think it's genius - if they had just came out and stood behind a table pushing buttons everyone [...]
Lately, it's become pretty clear that Jimmy Kimmel is probably the late night show worth watching when you decide to watch a late night show once a month. They're the most willing to take chances on weird stuff. Even moreso than Conan in his early 2000s peak. It's pretty interesting to think about 'indie' bands and these modern DJs performing on Late Night shows. I'm sure this is probably a new wave of 'creative performance models' that Animal Collective should have been able to use during "#1" on Conan. Acts or songs [...]
Voici la vidéo du show de Justice sur le Jimmy Kimmel Live hier pour D.A.N.C.E. Le jeu consiste à découvrir le plus rapidement possible les stars du Super-groupe interprétant la chanson
So everyone is posting this clip of french house duo Justice on Jimmy Kimmel , and as I'm not made of stone, I'll admit it's a pretty cute way to recreate a dance record for a late-night talk show. But it did get me thinking, and as a counter-argument, I'd like to post just three examples of why Justice are still total pikers when it comes to finding batshit ways for electronic duos to perform live for a studio audience: [...]
Via Stereogum So the only actual bit of Justice in this is the duo supplying the tuning stations sounds in the beginning before flipping it over to Rick James, Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Prince and Rod Stewart to do the actual performing. It's so bad that it's fantastic.
Justice enlists some really heavy hitters. Check out the backing band. That rules, but for every Justice, there is an injustice .
O.K., so I'm hardly one to hate on Justice . I mean, they're the most posted about artist on Panda Toes, and essentially everything we've written about 'em reads in about as complimentary a fashion as a press release. Well almost everyone on the interweb seems to be really happy with their performance on national T.V. last night. Sadly, I think I'm gonna have to hate for a bit. Their performance on Jimmy Kimmel Live had a number of flaws, the first couple of which were not their fault. First of all, who [...]
It was a tie between Rick and Rod, but then Stevie steals it right at the end.
Did anyone happen to catch Justice on Jimmy Kimmel last night? Well if you missed it, you missed a pretty unique performance. Right before Jimmy announced Justice, he said, "Alright, this is gonna be weird." He wasn't lying. The duo started off buy attempting to tune a radio to get reception, but that would be all you would see of them for the rest of the performance. The camera then pans to the stage where you see the super groups of all super groups ( Michael Jackson on lead vocals, Prince [...]
