It's very nearly one of my favourite days of the year. It's a day when people are encouraged not to just click the 'download' link next to the song they're listening to, but to put on some trousers, shoes and other going-outside necessaries, totter down to the local (preferably independent) record store and pay in circular bits of metal and rectangular bits of paper for a - wait for it - physical copy of said song. Now bear with me. This isn't some new-fangled idea that some hipster came up with, but it's what people used to do [...]

Let's face it: you don't want to be running around on Record Store Day this Saturday, trying to pick up both the latest releases and the many awesome RSD exclusives. Get out there today and pick up this week's new releases now. Topping your list should be the new album from U.K. space rockers Spiritualized , whose seventh studio album, our Music Director, Don Yates, calls "an often-gorgeous set of epic psych-rock containing elements of soul, gospel, prog and more, with elaborately arranged songs fleshed out with distorted psych guitars, celestial organ, cinematic strings, horns, gospelized choruses [...]
It's been a weird odyssey for Battles, whose music started out very much in the "math rock" camp, with last year's stellar Gary Newman-featuring, mostly vocals-having Gloss Drop landing somewhere just this side of danceable. ... read more

Another reworking off Dross Glop .
We've been casually covering Battles' Glass Drop album, as well as the Glass Drop remix project. That project has already seen remixes from Shabazz Palaces, Kode9, and more. To add fuel to the fire, Hudson Mohawke bring together their own renditions of some album cuts, and they both come out rather saucy. Stream the tracks and purchase them on April 26 on vinyl, thanks to Record Store Day .

For Record Store Day (April 21st), Battles will release Dross Glop 4 , the last entry in their 73 remix series . Battles are currently in the midst of releasing a series of remix singles called Dross Glop , in which a pretty varied and well-curated set of artists ( Shabazz Palaces , the Field ) remix songs from the great New York math-rock trio's 2011 album Gloss Drop . Soon, they'll collect all those remixes onto an album. The fourth 123 in the series is out on 4/21, Record Store Day, and it's got Gang Gang Dance doing a diffuse, spacey take on "Ice Cream" and Hudson Mohawke giving "Rolls Bayce" a scattered, euphoric [...]

A new remix from Battles' forthcoming remix album, featuring reworked tracks from the band's last album, Gloss Drop . The remix album's title: Dross Glop . Yep, that's the title. The above track is Hudson Mohawke taking on the track "Rolls Bayce," which I wish hit a bit harder with the bass, but it's still a nice revision. The complete collection of remixes, Dross Glop is set to drop on April 17th. Battles has been simultaneously releasing 123 records of these remixes, and the last installment of that is set for a Record Store [...]
