Indie, Rock, Folk, Acoustic - We Are Augustines is the brainchild of Brooklyn-based musicians Billy McCarthy and Eric Sanderson. The band formed from the ashes of Billy and Eric’s former band Pela. Their album ‘Rise Ye Sunken Ships’ was released in August of 2011 and 2012 should also be a big year for them with [...]

We write from our hearts, which happens to be something that we strongly demand from any bands that are covered on these blog pages. There are few rules to earn your place on The Recommender, except that you have to be bloody good and write your music with integrity. If we like you then we write you, and today's recommendation has our hearts properly hooked. We're certainly not the first online commentators to point this duo out to people, because they've enjoyed a building swarm of online coverage as we lead up to their debut album. They've earned [...]

We Are Augustines from Brooklyn (yes, another band from that area of NYC) have popped up on my radar just recently, even though they released their debut 'Rise Ye Sunken Ships' last year in America. (The US release info gave me pause, as in "how the hell have I not heard about these guys before?" I've embedded the official video for the lovely 'Chapel Song' below.) They're just getting around to releasing in 2012 in the UK next Monday (5th of March) on Oxcart Records, and they're giving away the track 'Augustines' in exchange for [...]

27th February will see the release of Chapel Song , the new single from Brooklyn's We Are Augustines. Following on from the success of their debut single Book Of James, the single precedes the UK release of the bands debut LP Rise Ye Sunken Ships (released in the US last year), which will see the light of day on these shores on March 5th. The band play a decent amount of European shows over the next few weeks in support of the release. You can check them out [...]

We Are Augustines by Julia Stryj By Julia Stryj I arrive at the Picturehouse in Edinburgh to interview We Are Augustines just after their sound check for their gig as support to Frightened Rabbit. When I meet the “lovely and beautiful” (I am sure that is how bassist Eric Sanderson described her very correctly in an interview I listened to) Arwen, their manager, she apologises right away and tells me that everything is running behind schedule. The band hasn’t even started their sound check yet. Billy McCarthy (vocal/guitar) [...]

Ein kleiner netter Song für den kalten Sonntag – das Video ist schon einige Monage alt, aber die Single erscheint erst jetzt in England, warum auch immer. Sehr angenehmes Lied, wie ich finde. (Danke an Franky für den Tipp!)

Filed under: News , New Music , Exclusive , Q + A Aliya Naumoff We Are Augustines have gone through a lot to release their debut album, 'Rise Ye Sunken Ships.' Two of the band's three members, Billy McCarthy (vocals/guitar) and Eric Sanderson (bass), were previously in Brooklyn indie group Pela , who splintered in August 2009 for a multitude of reasons. McCarthy, at the same time, was reeling from the [...]

We Are Augustines is what is left of the shattered Brooklyn band Pela. The enduring Pela remnants comprise of Billy McCarthy and Eric Sanderson. Following the release of Pela's debut Anytown Graffitti , the band dismantled after singer-songwriter McCarthy's brother committed suicide. "Book of James" is about McCarthy's brother's struggles with addiction and subsequent suicide. Here are "Book of James" and "Chapel Song" that will be on their debut album Rise Ye Sunken Ships (June 2011). In addition, the tonsil hockey video for "Chapel Song" and a short documentary on the making of the album. Another song you can [...]

New York is a never ending orgy of musical talent. I suppose this blog is kind of like the seedy next door neighbor who is always listening in on the action and telling everyone about it. We Are Augustines are another promising band from the big apple. Chapel Song is an uplifting indie power ballad, complete with horn section that takes this soaring song to even greater heights. If I was to play the name-game, I'd say they sound like The Killers stripped back to the bare essentials, and with less eye-liner. [...]

I am not someone who gets very worked up over most new releases. Sure there are a select few... new Radiohead albums obvs, other releases from some of my dearest favorites or perhaps a band releasing an album after a long hiatus (the Strokes, however, do not apply here). But this year I am just a teensy bit OVERWHELMINGLY anticipating the release of the debut album from NYC band We Are Augustines (Bill McCarthy and Eric Sanderson formerly of indie rock group Pela), entitled Rise Ye Sunken Ships . Due out for [...]
