I'm pretty sure that this is the first new National song unveiled since Boxer , in its debut performance earlier this week at The Vega in Copenhagen, Denmark. This mp3 is just a rip from the video above ( more pics from the taper here ), but for us addicts I suppose it will do temporarily. The title could also be " Believe Me ." Swirling atmosphere and sonorous horns . . . I can't wait to hear a clean copy of this. [...]

FOLLOW THAT BIRD! AT BEAUTY BAR Sorry for not updating Wednesday guys - a combination of more moving difficulties and a slow news day meant no time for an update. However, today is a double update, beginning with a show review of one of the best local bands we've stumbled upon all year, the punk trio Follow That Bird! . Stunning an elated Beauty Bar crowd with their massive set, these women pack a sound laden with furious feedback and chugging basslines under the magnificent croon of [...]
by phil Hot off an impressive performance at Lollapalooza , in which they deemed Mr. November , “a song not about John Mccain,” The National debuted a brand new tune last night at Vega in Copenhagen. It’s called “A Thousand Black Cities,” and while the video and sound are not the clearest, it’s always a good thing to hear new music from The National—look out for the quick breakdown at about 2:30 and some horns to close out the song. The crowd for The National's concert in Copenhagen was treated to a new song from the band called "A Thousand Black Cities". Here's the video in all its red and black glory. [ The National Official Site ] [ Tour Dates ]
The National performed a new post- Boxer song called "A Thousand Black Cities" at Vega in Copenhagen last night. Ominous. The Danish crowd seems to dig it, especially the girl who's laughing near the camera for the duration. The sound on the YouTube clip isn't crystal clear, but seems like Matt Berninger's ruminating on a quiet apocalypse in a neighborhood within a ridiculous country ... and that it's tied to a shift in the weather, smothering blue skies, and the exit's smooth horns. But that's just an early guess.
The National premired a new track at a concert in Denmark. It is entitled 'A Thousand Black Cities'. You can see it in a video below. The National - Mansion on the Hill [Live] [zshare]
The National 's Denmark-debuted latest sounds pretty tremendous, though I hope it's a little more rough-edged on record -- assuming it makes a record. (Via I Guess I'm Floating )
Only recently have I started to come around to The National. It's not that I didn't like them, but I just never felt them in the way that so many people seem so feverish towards them. You wouldn't get an argument from me if you told me you loved The National, it's just well, that's where you and I would differ. They always came across as calculated for maximum critical adulation. The baritone voice, the tight song arrangements, the cryptic yet poetic lyrics, the fluttering of horns, the way songs would crescendo at just [...]
The last couple times The National have come to town I have been skipping on seeing them since i saw them 3 times in the span of about 2 months when Boxer first came out. So it's always good news for me when I hear they are playing some new stuff. Especially when it's good. Was there any doubt?
Enjoy 'A Thousand Black Cities' below. Download an MP3 at bottom of post. MP3: The National - Fake Empire
I've never been a big fan of the National, but after listening to this song a few times I might be ready to change my tune. Hell, just the horns and outro are enough to win me over. Via IGIF
Brooklyn heroes The National debut a new song, “A Thousand Black Cities,” live in Denmark. Via the incomparable IGIF .
The National debuted a new song called " A Thousand Black Cities " to a packed house last night in Copenhagen, Denmark. Thanks to reader Bryant Heath for not only recording the performance and uploading it to YouTube, but also for sharing it exclusively with IGIF. Fresh off the heels of the overwhelming Boxer LP, not to mention the underwhelming Virginia EP, it sounds as if Berninger and company are slowly working their way towards an as of yet undiscovered sound, demonstrated [...]
