You might have heard of the recent genrefication of the 'chillwave movement ', which was basically a non-collective effort by producers around the world who created mp3s that were lofi, chill, electro jams. Because all of this music was released within a 2 month period, the music media was fortunate enough to be able to 'group it together' in order to 'make it seem more meaningful/coverable.' I was kinda sad when I found out that some of my fave chillwave hits were actually 'sample-based songs.' Apparently this is a 'problem' that has caused many [...]

So we've given the new Janet album a few spins, and for the most part we like it. One of our favorite tracks is So Much Betta (not bett er , betta) and when we first heard it, we were struck by how familiar it sounded... turns out, it samples a Daft Punk song, Daftendirekt, from the duo's first album "Human After All." The sample actually works pretty nicely, and Janet's manages to pull off a pretty cool sounding song. (Seriously, it's hot.) Anyway, sampling Daft Punk seems to be the thing to [...]
Although this particular clip isn't new to the interwebs, we just stumbled upon it over the weekend. Although die-hard fans may already know the source for many of Daft Punk's samples, the average listener is most likely not done the research. This short video shows where the French dance gurus snagged some of the bits that comprised a few of their greatest tunes. Enjoy! Daft Punk MySpace

Since Kanye made them the current "It" group to sample (no disrepsect to Swizz ), check out "Where Daft Punk got their samples from": I might have linked this before but shout to Haldan and the Palms Out crew too. (h/t: Popbitch )
You may have seen this doing the rounds on the interweb recently. Sparked by a Daft Punk edition of Palms Out Sounds magnificent Sample Wednesday in which we get to hear just how much songs from Discovery , Human after All and to a lesser extent, Homework utilise WHOLE PARTS of other tunes as the guts of the songs. If you haven't heard these before, you might be very, very surprised. [...]
Prefix has directed The Music Slut to a new YouTube feature highlighting the sample techniques of Daft Punk, French electro-pop extraoridnaires. It appears as if most of the band's biggest hits have been direct samples, or, er, replicas of disco hits from the '70s/early '80s. Hmm. While this doesn't make Daft Punk any less amazing (find me one person who can honestly say they don't bust a move to Homework or Discovery 's singles), it perhaps puts their credibility/orginality in question. [...]
