I'm WAY behind on my 2012 albums but here's a list of my 15 favorites that I couldn't be bothered to put into numerical order. Also, I managed to get two blog posts in this year so that's cool. Alabama Shakes -- Boys & Girls I'd like to see Frank [...]

The Dirty Projectors are in high-demand here in the nation’s capital. The group’s upcoming show at the 9:30 Club on Friday, August 17th, sold out so fast that another date was added for the following night, Saturday, August 18th. However, history inevitably repeated itself, and the subsequent show sold out shortly thereafter. But weep not, loyal Dirty Projectors fans-we here at TVD have a pair of tickets to the latter show that are currently in need of a good home. The group [...]

“You're already dead, but you're about to die.” Mind – fucked. And we’re only two songs in. David Longstreth is a master of warping sounds, stanzas, ideas, and structure. His music is for that part in all of us that wants to explore new things; traditional pop constructions taken far from the standard. Swing Lo Magellan is so undeniably catchy, possibly the band’s most accessible album, but it still pushes the boundaries of pop and rock past the edge of anything that’s been done before. “I like something that feels like a moment,” Longstreth says in [...]

There are many things that could be said about Dirty Projectors to describe the Brooklyn collective to the uninitiated, but they’re best summarized as "interesting." They’re the only band that can boast both a song cycle about Don Henley and a reconstructed-from-memory cover of Black Flag’s Damaged in their discography, but they also have Dave Longstreth, one of music’s most progressive thinkers who constantly reinvents and remodels his musical vision to produce results that are often unprecedented and never repetitive. (In fact, his unique approach to songcraft has often been so [...]

With an alluring walking guitar part, and steady stream of hand claps driving it, "Dance For You," from the Dirty Projectors upcoming LP Swing Lo Magellan , is great good-mood music. A relaxed attitude and warm vocals keep the song inviting before a dramatic musical turn breaks it all up halfway through the song. Worthy of a theatrical production, the hand claps and guitar exit and in comes a bevy of swelling synths and organs. Just when the song sounds like it's about to take it's next musical detour, the hand claps surge back, the walking guitar sings out in [...]

A new Dirty Projectors track has hit the net and it goes b the name of "Dance For You". Last week we got to enjoy the band perform "Gun Has No Trigger" on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon , and they also visited KEXP recently to perform some new album cuts. Pitchfork points out, you can head over to the archive on KEXP to see them perform "Offspring Are Blank" and "The Socialites" which will feature on the forthcoming album, Swing Lo Magellan. Below though you can listen to "Dance For [...]
Dirty Projectors drop another track from their forthcoming LP, Swing Lo Magellan . This track, and the previous one to be released , are taking the Projectors' sound in a noticeably sweeter, poppier direction. While it's nowhere near as hard-hitting as their earlier material, there's something sneaky about how these tracks have quietly seeped into my subconscious. Tattooing themselves in my musical memory without being completely aware, because I find myself humming their melodies long after I've decided to myself, "yeah, this is alright." I guess I need to listen to my subconscious more often. This [...]

Posted in Something For The Weekend Soundbite 'Dance For You' this weeks choice for Sunday Supplement, an unassuming new track from Dirty Projectors. Starting off with a handclap backbeat and simple guitar, this simple and sweet ditty will be sure to make you smile. Their new album Swing Lo Magellan comes out July 9 / 10 on Domino Records.
Within the first 5 seconds, I was in love with the new Dirty Projectors song, “Dance For You”. Taking a lighter route than previous “Gun Has No Trigger”, there is a plethora of handclaps and euphoric feelings passing through air on this. I’m not sure I’ve ever heard a band so happy in the ever-searching goal of finding the answers to life. Swing Lo Magellan will be out July 9th through Domino. Dirty Projectors - “Dance For You”

As previously reported, Brooklyn experimental indie mainstays Dirty Projectors are set to release their long-awaited follow-up to 2009’s extremely well-received Bitte Orca , Swing Lo Magellan on July 9 via Domino. Following on from the LPs lead single 'Gun Has No Trigger', which was released on March 30, the US six-piece have now revealed a second track taken from the album, 'Dance For You'. It’s an all-together rawer affair than 'Trigger' and sees bandleader Dave Longstreth’s trademark caterwauling vocals drift lazily across meandering guitars and stuttering percussion. 'Dance For [...]
