Expanding the latent arena rock sensibilities that peppered Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me by slowing them down and stretching them to the breaking point, the Cure reached the peak of their popularity with the crawling, darkly seductive Disintegration. It's a hypnotic, mesmerizing record, comprised almost entirely of epics like the soaring, icy "Pictures of You." The handful of pop songs, like the
I was a slow convert to Anthony and the Johnsons, but after seeing him play live a couple of weeks ago I am wholly convinced of his greatness... This one's for anyone with a love for the unexpected cover version and anyone else who's found themselves awake at this hour.
At a recent performance in Amsterdam with Amsterdam's Metropolitan Opera (which is still streaming here ), Antony and the Johnsons did a beautrful cover of Beyonce's "Crazy in Love," which is above for your perusal. Antony exposes an emotional tenderness that has always been percolating beneath the surface of the bluster of Beyonce's original. Plus this song is way cooler with some oboe. Antony's cover of "Crazy in Love" will be the b-side to his "Aeon" single, which is out on Aug. 3 via Secretely Canadian. [ Pitchfork ]
Ég hef pervertískan áhuga á þekjum (aka ábreiðum/tökulögum/covers) en þó sérstaklega þegar lagaval listamanna er óvænt. Það vakti sérstakan áhuga minn þegar þegar fréttist fyrir nokkru að Antony and the Johnsons ætluðu að tækla r'n'b smell Beyoncé Knowles , "Crazy In Love", og gefa út sem b-hlið nú seinna í sumar.
Ever wonder what Beyoncé's single "Crazy" would sound like if it was slowed down and sung by Antony and the Johnsons? Well, wonder no longer! The answer is really good. Antony and the Johnsons MySpace -Chandler
I'm sure we've all come across the billions of Serious Bands covering Pop Artists, and it's so ironic, ohmygawd LOL! Did you hear that Talented Band cover "I Kissed a Girl" acoustic? They're not even girls, they're boys OF COURSE THEY'D LIKE KISSING GIRLS! But now here comes Antony and the Johnsons covering Beyoncé's "Crazy in Love," and holy crap. Draped in angelic light and taking advantage of a beautiful orchestra, Antony emotes the hell out of the chart-topper as he's wont to do, and that thunderous applause at the song's end is legitimate and deserved.
