As the faint smell of love dissipates from the air of Valentine's weekend into yet another working week, another round of singles jostle their way into contention to follow in the footsteps of last week's Single of The Week winner Field Music . Is the romantic sentiment still filtering through to this week's shortlist...In a word... No... So who has made the list for this week I hear you cry? Well cry no more and read on... The Kays Lavelle - 'The Hours' [...]

The Big Pink first caught my attention with their single "Velvet," a dreamy collage of industrial beats amidst a droning guitar shred. I played it over and over and over until I got my hands on the debut album A Brief History of Love, which became an automatic favorite. While being more reminiscent of Jesus and the Mary Chain, the band took its name from country soul rockers The Band's debut album Music from Big Pink. The duo consists of multi-instrumentalists Robbie Furze and Milo Cordell. The band's debut album, A [...]
the big pink - velvet [a melodious catchy guitar wall of sound track... do you need any more reason to love this re-release? brilliant!] http://feeds.feedburner.com/Wo ngiesMusicWorld

This is a two part post. PART 1 First off, as a few of my close friends and family will know, October is an annually difficult month for me, a lot of shit has happened in this particular month over recent years, say maybe from 2003 onwards. None more so than last October (2008) which was probably the hardest yet. I'm not going to go into details as this isn't a therapy session afterall but those in the know will understand what i mean. It just seems to be a difficult 31 days in general. [...]
UK duo gets fuzzy and epic on their debut tribute to '90s shoegaze. Everything about the Big Pink screams imitation. From the name -- a reference to the seminal debut album by Canadian rockers the Band (no, its not a coincidence check the name of their website) -- to the cover art (The Pixies' Surfer Rosa, maybe?), to their psychedelic-shoegaze sound, everything is in someway a rather obvious gesture to some renowned rock act or album of the past. This isn't an erroneous decision, necessarily. After all, it's...
Editors - "Papillon" Many dudes running their asses off all around Los Angeles at night. This very synth heavy (sounding like early 80's Depeche Mode) first single is from their third album titled "In This Light and On This Evening" coming out October 13th. We Were Promised Jetpacks - "Quiet Little Voices" A nice performance video from these 4 Scottish lads [...]
I absolutely love The Big Pink, and while it's not going to be able to knock Ben Klock's One out of the #1 slot for my favorite album of 2009, it's definitely aiming for the top five. They've finally released A Brief History Of Love and Pitchfork not only gave it an 8.2 rating, but it's a well-crafted review. I love the production and brooding ambiance on the record, and am thrilled that they are

Filed under: UK , Band of the Week The Big Pink's mission may just be to confuse us from the word go. When you name your band after the title of a record by Bob Dylan 's fellow travellers the Band, visions of pastoral, woozy folk-rock are only to be expected. The problem is, this is a very, very long way from what the Big Pink do. Comprised of Robbie Furze and Milo Cordell, the Big Pink's music looks not so much to 'The Basement Tapes' as [...]
Congratulations, Cigi, you are very late again jumping on the bandwagon. Jesus, I don't know if I'm getting old or just not paying enough attention anymore or whatever but I just can't wrap my head around the way The Big Pink went by me unnoticed. They had a fucking Gang Gang Dance remix for fuck's sake! Anyway, no use being serious about it. So it's The Big Pink. Duo. London. Fog and love. Shoegaze. Jesus and The Mary Chain. Repression of anxieties. The Stone Roses. Hypnotizing drums. A much better Kasabian. Noise. Psychedelia. Alt-disco. (Pfff I should've just [...]

Life-long friends Robbie Furze and Milo Cordell started making music as The Big Pink in 2007, taking their name from the debut album by "The Band". Furze used to play guitar for Alec Empire and run the record label Hate Channel with Cordell. Cordell (son of Denny Cordell and brother of Tarka Cordell) had also been releasing records through his own label Merok Records, which featured early noise rock releases by Klaxons, Titus Andronicus, and Crystal Castles. The Big Pink signed with famed British record label 4AD in February 2009. On February 25, 2009, [...]

The Big Pink reign from London and will be releasing their debut album in September. The first single/video "Velvet" is a nice electro/rock song. The band was named after the former group, "The Band", which album,"The Music from the Big Pink" was one of the most acclaimed albums of the late 60's. The Big Pink-Dominos A Brief History of Love ( zShare )

This song is fucking EPIC. I first saw this video on Wolfing Hour 's blog about a few weeks back and its not something that can be easily forgotten. It's got an early 90s brit-rock feel to it and I cant help conjuring up The Verve in my head. Yeah its almost got that Richard Ashcroft-y vocals. The Big Pink 's wailing pleading vocals and the crashing wall of sound, noise, feedback pulls me at the heart strings so much that it reminds me so [...]
Whilst you can get your kicks at pretty much any festival this year, why not try something a little, well, smaller? Though London's Field Day is swamped in terms of size by the likes of Glastonbury, Reading and all the other giant musical events, Field Day is always one of, if not the most enjoyable festivals of late.

Milo Cordell and Robbie Furze, also known as the pair behind shoegazy electro band The Big Pink ( who you can read about here ), have confirmed the date, and the full details behind their forthcoming debut album, set to be released on 4ad records September 14th . This will sit comfortably between a series of summer UK festival dates and a full UK tour scheduled for October. The album, entitled A Brief History Of Love , will feature previous singles Too Young To Love , Crystal Visions and [...]

Monday, July 27, 2009 Today's Quick Mention: If you happen to not have any plans for tonight then I strongly recommend that you make the effort to get out and join me at the Parish for Stellastarr*, Wild Light and Experimental Aircraft. It'll be way fun. And stuff. See you there? Believe it or not, I was actually a little excited for the weekend to come to an end so that I could get your week started right with a duo [...]

Auf der diesjährigen Newcomer-Liste kommen The Big Pink gleich hinter La Roux, Passion Pit und Little Boots. Nun ist ihre zweite Single erschienen und sie haben ihr Debüt angekündigt. Die Welt stand beinahe still.

I've been crazy for this jam for a week now, first loved the Gang Gang Dance remix but the original is even better. After you fall in love with the original give the GGD remix another listen, the layers and the build up are really great. The video is pretty too.
