Fuse and the Boston Phoenix have coincidentally come up with similar ways to celebrate Independence Day. Gothamist is reporting that indie club monolith Bowery Presents has acquired a new venue. The latest establishment will be in Midtown and is called Terminal 5 (the old Club Exit). The Shins, the Sub Pop "phenomenon" released their album on January 23 to please the ears of their loyal following fans. This is the third full length album from The Shins and was recorded in James Mercer's basement studio, Phil Ek's Seattle digs, and in Oregon City with producer Joe Chiccarelli, who has also worked with Beck and U2. Their past albums were great and heavily featured ( Garden State , anyone?), but The Shins' latest album, Wincing the Night Away , clearly takes the cake. Every one of the eleven tracks is beautifully crafted, in every aspect. Lyrics are as story-like and poignant as ever, James Mercer seems to have developed a subtle edge to his voice, and instrumentals simply shine , far more than in the past, Oh, Inverted World inclusive. I caught the Shins on Saturday Night Live, and immediately fell in love with the first single from their new release called "Wincing the Night Away." The song called "Phantom Limb" has a very surf music/Southern California vibe, and would be a perfect fit for an upcoming episode of "The O.C."
