Few artists resonate so strongly with KEXP listeners and all Seattle music fans as Kurt Cobain . His band, Nirvana, wasn't the first to break out of the Northwest or did their groundbreaking breakthrough, Nevermind , sell the most among their contemporaries, but Cobain probably represented more of the local attitude of the early 902s than anyone else. Born in Aberdeen, an old milling town near Washington's coast, and shuffled between fragments of a broken family, misunderstood and disenchanted at school, Cobain found a home in the 802s NW punk scene and would eventually change not only Northwest [...]
In 1992, the recording industry was riding high. The compact disc had become a major success, with music lovers purchasing new albums and old releases in astonishing numbers despite the format's... Continue reading "MTV's Best Year: The Top 5 Videos of 1992" >
The grunge movement wasn't merely a sub-genre of rock music. It has its own aura, sound, dynamic and even fashions. No band optimizes this movement that came out of the Northwestern states like Nirvana (well, maybe Pearl Jam, too). This track is one that rings back our teenage years of angst and rebellion. "In Bloom" is one of their best tracks and also one of the videos that identify the 90s' as a turning point in rock music, and the genre hasn't been as good since. Related articles [...]

As we continue on with our 10 Weeks of Record Store Day Vinyl Giveaways, TVD has a copy of Nirvana’s Nevermind that we want to put in the hands of one lucky fan. Nirvana is widely thought to be one of the main pioneers of the Seattle grunge sound. Nevermind , the band’s sophomore release and major label debut, is considered to be one of the most influential albums of its time, as well as the album that brought alternative rock to the mainstream circuits. [...]

Tweet It'd be like trying to reimagine 'Screamadelica' or record a tribute to 'The Stone Roses'. An impossible task but that didn't stop Reimagine Music from gathering acts of the calibre of the Album Leaf, Murder By Death and Maps & Atlasas to come forth and multiply on a one of a kind. The result is called 'Come As You Are' and while you can't argue with its timing, given that 'Nevermind' is officially 20 years old, it will probably please and [...]
If you started out the '90s playing in a scuzzy stomp-rock band, there's a decent chance that you became a millionaire at some point during the decade. If you were a parent of teenagers, you may have, at some point, worn Doc Martens or stripey multicolor stocking caps in a lame attempt to impress your kids. If you worked in an ad agency, you may have pitched a TV commercial in which a Volkswagen crowd-surfs. These things were happening everywhere during that decade, and in a lot of ways, they were happening as a direct result of Nevermind . [...]
I really miss the sounds from my high school days. Those years of music have become my referential point by which all music I listen to now is judged against.

The DVD will be [...]

Uscirà infatti per Universal, un cofanetto per la celebrazione del ventennale e il contenuto è davvero incredibile. Quattro CD e un DVD con rarità, B-sides, materiale inedito [...]
I was a freshman in high school the year that Nirvana's Nevermind came out. I'd been introduced to punk rock by my junior high crush the year prior in a little listening booth at Vinyl Fever (which closed in February of this year, to my ever lasting heartbreak), and at the time I was heavy into Black Flag, Rancid, The Descendents, The Distillers, and The Ramones. I'd barely heard of Grunge, but when someone handed me their headphones at a bus stop and the chorus to "Lithium" came blasting out, my mind was blown. [...]

Jason Mendelsohn and Eric Klinger continue to take on the Greatest Albums of All Time. This time it's the number three LP, Nirvana's 'Nevermind'. Dust off your flannel shirt-it's going to be a grungy good time! Klinger: Hey Mendelsohn, remember the 1990s? What a crazy time! What with the Friends gang and the heroin chic and that hilarious guy Clinton makin' mischief in the White House. Woo! Well here it is, crystallized in musical form! Mendelsohn Ah, the 1990s. I remember that decade (vaguely). It was a simpler time, an age of innocence. You could still carry water bottles [...]
