November is such a huge month for concerts. I've seen so many bands this month, I barely can tell you what. But one highlight is yet to come - the amazing Destroyer , aka Dan Bejar, is coming to Berlin with his seven-member band. This means an unforgettable night with flutes, saxophones and synthesizers; simply soft-jazz at its best. PUSCHEN and Iamnosuperman want you to join this special event, with support by The Luyas . I'm giving away 12 tickets for the show on November 29 at Lido , just join [...]

Returning for its fifteenth year, Melt! Festival takes place in Gräfenhainichen's giant industrial crane museum. Surrounded by a vast fresh water lake and inhabited by truly unique structures, Ferropolis in Germany provides a breath taking space for an incredibly exntesive and collective line-up to do their thing. Taking place from 13-15 July the festival is completely sold out but for those lucky enough to have tickets already there will undoubtedly be some hard decisions to make so we thought we'd give our run down of this year's essential acts. Caribou [...]

We'll continue today with our top 25 countdown with albums #15 through #11. #15: Destroyer - Kaputt Dan Bejar is somewhat off-putting at times. The super-literate and carving intellectual drive of his work with Destroyer and The New Pornographers , mixed with his Gordon Gano-like vocal renditions were a constant confinement [...]

Music videos accomplish what has never been done before in the history of media: They make experimentation a commercial enterprise. They afford musicians, filmmakers, and multimedia artists the chance to have their craziest ideas not only produced, but shown to a large audience. What's more, in the age of Internet video, indie productions are now on equal footing with million-dollar productions. There's no visual medium more diverse or creative than music videos. Thirty years after the launch of MTV, the format is not only alive and well, but it's matured, expanded, and become a part of our global culture. When [...]
I’m going to be honest. I had never heard of Destroyer until earlier this year when their critically acclaimed album, Kaputt, was released. To be honest again, this isn’t really a band, it’s a one-man project from Daniel Bejar, who has frequently collaborated with The New Pornographers in the past. And to be honest once [...]
Monday night, La Maroquinerie will host a 100% Canada night with Daniel Beja and his project Destroyer, the occasion for him to present his new album "Kaputt" praised in all the music press. He'll be accompanied by the new Constellation Records's star, Pat Jordache (ex-Islands) whose latest album "Future Songs" is still turning on your turntable. We have 3x2 tickets to go see them live, try your luck.

It's been a while...here is what I have been listening to in exile. You may hate these songs. Frankly I don't care. An absolute goddess. I love you Kate Bush. Lady Gaga wishes she was 1/10000th as interesting and as alluring as Kate Bush. ABBA are responsible for the best pop music ever made, full stop. Every lyric a hook...every hook perfection. Don't deny it. Your boyfriend doesn't. Breathtaking, camp, moving, kitsch...all in one. Phantom of the Opera stays with you once you have seen it, [...]

Destroyer is not a hardcore band, it is singer-songwriter Dan Bejar and his new hand-crafted sonic masterpiece Kaputt stands out from the crowd. Strap on your headphones and listen: it sounds completely familiar, a comforting sound from a bygone era. Compare it to Gaga and K-Pez, however, and Kaputt is an alien presence from the planet Tharg. It has the glistening production of an 80s classic, as redolent of that era as bubble perms, legwarmers, 'Frankie Says', The Breakfast Club and Miami Vice. It has muted trumpets, fretless bass, nagging female [...]

Is Destroyer 's Kaputt the beginning of the end for indie-rock's recent appropriation of the sexy saxophone, or simply the end of the beginning? Chances are it's the latter. Kaputt , released in January by Merge, seems like the logical follow-up to the efforts of acts such as Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti—who, in 2010, re-introduced the once-laughable music cliche to the world in a way that made the re-packaging palatable. (The best part? Ever since sincerity became the new irony, bands don't even have to wink when they mine yesterday's record bins for tomorrow's sound.) Either [...]

Cue weekly mantra: As we've pointed out over the past few weeks (rather broken record-like) one of the happy coincidences of being The Record Store Day Blog For 2011 is that we’re afforded the opportunity to underscore one of our main themes—namely that vinyl is a contemporary medium which is thriving and more vital than it has been in some time—DJ’s, purists, and collectors notwithstanding. So, to that end, we’re spending the next eleven weeks straight putting records into the hands of TVD readers as we count down to April 16, 2011—Record [...]
