SXSW is literally 'round the corner, and wandering around the streets of Austin aimlessly is completely unacceptable. Some semblance of a plan must be in order, or at least have a friend to be in charge of that shizz. C=T's first act to not miss this year at SX is a Toronto duo on one of my favorite labels, Arts and Crafts, Trust. Trust is Robert Alfons and Maya Postepski (Austra). Formed in 2009, the Toronto-based duo released its first singles, "Candy Walls" and "Bulbform" in 2011 before signing with Arts & Crafts for the 2012 release of their forthcoming debut full length, TRST. In the last year they've performed with DFA1979, Crystal Castles, Balam Acab, Glass Candy, and Hercules and Love Affair. It wasn’t even a year ago that Canadian goth-electronic act Austra unveiled their debut LP. Now, one of the band’s members is set to debut a new project. Together with Robert Alfons, Maya Postepski formed Trust just as her other band was getting going. TRUST is the project of Austra’s brilliantly bespectacled drummer Maya Postepski and her friend Robert Alfons; together, the Toronto duo make a kind of dark, seething synth-pop, all freezing-cold, heartbeat-driven, expansive electronic soundscapes anchored by Alfons’ idiosyncratic echoed vocals.
