The Thermals are set for a big year. Their first three albums will be reissued via Sub Pop on March 5, they'll be all over SXSW, and then on April 5 the band will release Desperate Ground through their new label, Saddle Creek . All of that will surely be stellar. Hear a new track below. Enjoy. : The Thermals - Born To Kill : I thought this trio's last album was a bit bloated, so it was a relief when this single turned out to a be fuzzy burst of [...]
In honor of Independence Day, KEXP is saluting some of our favorite indie record labels who’s DIY-spirit helped revolutionize the music industry. As an independent radio station ourselves, KEXP is thrilled to give a 13-gun salute to these pioneers with a series of label spotlights through the Fourth of July. Kill Rock Stars began in 1991 as a way for founder Slim Moon to release spoken-word records with his friends, including Kathleen Hanna (who would go on to be the lead singer of Bikini Kill). [...]

Hutch, Kathy and Westin are back—and this time things are getting personal. As reported this morning on Pitchfork , lovable Portland pop punks the Thermals are set to drop their new record, titled Personal Life , on September 7 via local label Kill Rock Stars . Though it's a rumor that's been floating around for a while—especially if you follow Kill Rock Stars' Maggie Vail on Facebook, as she's been putting things like "Personal Life" and "I'm Gonna Change Your Life" as her status updates for months—it's nice to get actual confirmation that this thing is really [...]

The Thermals evolve one more step with their newest album Now We Can See . Mellowing out riff by riff since their debut More Parts Per Million , the poppy garage punk of The Thermals (now with Kill Rock Stars ) has leaned towards a happy garage feeling, less gritty than albums before. Songs like "Now We Can See" show some sort of maturity in the band's aging, at least lyrically, along with a good amount of the necessary sing-alongy-refrain. Walk Between The Lines [...]

I was hooked on the Thermals from the first time I heard the 2006 song "Here's Your Future": God reached his hand down from the sky/ God asked Noah if he wanted to die/ He said, "No Sir, oh, no Sir!"/ God said, "Here's your future: It's gonna rain..." So we packing our things/We're building a boat/ We're gonna create the new master race/ 'Cause we're so pure, oh Lord we're so pure Maybe the Thermals, who play Pitchfork next weekend, haven't changed much in the [...]

The Thermals have gotten the better of me twice recently: first, by delivering some kick-ass shows during South by Southwest that came seemingly out of nowhere to become a festival highlight, then by releasing Now We Can See , a smart-fun-rocking album that may be their best yet. The Thermals - "Now We Can See" Live, the band makes more of a blissful racket than any other three-piece I can think of, so you should definitely try to catch one of the band's Bottom of the Hill [...]
This video is just too awesome, I had to share it. They really enjoy performing. Buy: Amazon - itunes

Bass player rocker chick Kathy Foster of Portland's The Thermals sounds off on her listening choices these days to The Onion's AV Club : "That’s on Clouds Taste Metallic. This is another band that has been a huge influence on me in creating my own aesthetic and what I think sounds good. I love this album and the album before this, Transmissions From The Satellite Heart. I love the huge, fat sounds they get, but it also sounds like they’re recording on tape, and you can hear the room. They get such good [...]
In a year likely to be defined by intergalactic songbirds with synths and Animal Collective’s maximalistic psychedelia, The Thermals ’ ballsy punk pop sounds curiously fresh. Fourth album Now We Can See finds Hutch Harris and his faintly uncool crew crashing the hip party, smelling of beer and dragging a whopper sack of bargain-bin Big Star and Residents LPs behind them. For this is sweaty music with its choruses set to big, its fists set to clench, and its lyrics set to serious. Hold Steady fans, you know what I’m talking about. Fans of [...]

Geht ganz leicht: "Oh-We-Oh-We-Oh-Uh" The Thermals - "Now We Can See" (MP3)
I've been jamming the Thermal's new album Now We Can See for weeks now and realized that I never gave it its proper due on YANP. MP3: The Thermals - Now We Can See Going into SXSW, I hadn't yet heard the new Thermals album and wasn't all that solid on their back catalogue. I [...]
O novo álbum dos norte-americanos The Thermals, 'Now We Can See', é um dos grandes álbuns de 2009. Oh yeah!Fica aqui o primeiro clip rodado para um dos temas do novo álbum, precisamente o que entitula o mesmo: "Now We Can See". Grandioso!
