Common's ninth studio album The Dreamer/The Believer was released in December of last year but has been on constant rotation over the past few months. As the title suggests, The Dreamer/The Believer, is a record of nostalgia that hankers back into the dreams and aspirations of his past, told with slick wordplay and tactile storytelling. 'Ghetto Dreams', featuring Nas, is one of [...]

Common teams up with '90s muse No I.D. to make an album as forward thinking sonically as it is rote lyrically. Common's a rapper rap fans can't help but root for. Over his career he's consistently been one of the most introspective, insightful presences on a beat, whether he was deconstructing hip-hop's transition into gangsterism, questioning his own homophobia or breaking down the relationships between White America and black icons like Afeni Shakur and Mumia Abu-Jamal. Like Water for Chocolate remains a touchstone release, both for Common's self-examinations and the Soulquarians' (?uestlove, J Dilla, James Poyser...

Everything the White Girl Mob learned, they learned from the above commercial. This is no time for circumlocution. There are songs to argue about. Everything is explained below. Some guys got it, some guys don't. 50. "Wale-"Chain Music" I can picture Meek Mill listening to this song, thinking, “This is what 'House Party' would sound like if I actually had a personality and knew how to rap.” Then he would [...]

I'm a little behind on this. Two new albums , which both are on my top 25 list, were released last Tuesday December 6th. The Roots "Undun" Undun is the eleventh studio album by the Legendary Roots Crew, and also the first concept album. I read that the album details the life of a fictional character, "Redford Stevens." Either way the album this album is amazing and I highly recommend you listen to it. Undun 1. "Dun" 2. "Sleep" 3. "Make My" 4. "One [...]

by Andrew Sacher Common will release his first album for Warner Brothers , The Dreamer/The Believer on December 20. The album was produced entirely by No I.D. , who handled the production on the majority of Common's first three albums. The album features guest spots by Nas , John Legend , Makeba Riddick , and an original poem by Maya Angelou . It's no surprise that the album differs [...]

Though it's not the hardest cut we've heard from Common's gangster-tinged The Dreamer, The Believer , "Celebrate" is the best one yet. The cheery exterior belies a ignorant core and Common sounds more comfortable than he does on "Sweet" or "Ghetto Dreams" (listen to both after the break). And he raps better than he has in a long time. Good times.
Common is asking fans for a little help with the music video for his latest single "Ghetto Dreams." Filmmakers can submit original videos inspired by the track, and the winner will receive a Canon T3i digital camera and a signed copy of Common's album, The Dreamer, The Believer . The deadline to submit is November 7, with a few weeks of voting and a final decision from Common on December 5. For more details on how to submit, check here , and watch the original video below.

It took a while, but after some listening, Common's Ghetto Dreams single finally grew on me, and has managed to stay at the top of my "recently played" tracks on my iTunes. I guess the reason why I was on the border about this track is because I did not at all expect this roughened up Common look whatsoever. I was surprised to see him jump from his clean-cut R&B look, and releasing the smoothest tracks to this dirty heavy beat with a video of him and Nas looking like he got banned from his local barbershop and [...]
Thought this comment I found on youtube would best describe this video:"Niggas don't realize how much hiphop needs this rite now. This is more than a breath of fresh ear. These niggas out now make it seem so hard to make a good fucking rap album. Is it really that challenging to write dope meaningful lyrics over a smooth out beat?" - blackplaque617
