Video: Where Do You Go To My Lovely - Peter Sarstedt

So Dewey Dell and I got obsessed with this song by Peter Sarstedt last night. It graces the soundtrack of the Wes Anderson short film "Hotel Chevalier" that preceded "The Darjeeling Limited." We had to do some Google research on Sarstedt (one-hit wonder, #1 on UK Top 40, 1969) and even strummed out the song on guitar (easy: C, Am, F, G, repeat). But this video takes the cake. Again, the power of the mustache can't be overstated, especially if a French accent is coming out from underneath it. [...]

This is a musical attachment of sorts to yesterday's review of The Darjeeling Limited , a live television performance of "Where Do You Go to My Lovely?" by Peter Sarstedt. This minor classic from 1967 is highlighted (to great effect) throughout Hotel Chevalier , the Wes Anderson short film that precedes The Darjeeling Limited , and is yet another case of Anderson unearthing some long-lost musical gem, dusting it off, and giving it a new and deserved life. Certain types of music can make us feel fancy, and other types of music can make us feel clean. I've found that most music that makes me feel this way is usually extraordinarily articulate. This is the case with 60's pop songwriter Peter Sarstedt .
