Die BBC Longlist ist da. 15 Bands, die nächstes Jahr euren iPod füllen werden. Auch heuer hat's wieder ein paar "safe bets" unter den Nominierten. Mehr als 150 Musikschaffende, Blogger, Produzenten und Journalisten befragt die BBC jeweils für ihre Longlist , die immer im Dezember veröffentlicht wird. Anfang Januar gibt's dann aus der Long- eine Shortlist mit den fünf Bands und/oder Acts, die den Durchbruch mehr oder weniger auf Sicher haben. Every blog under the sun will have a go at picking the next years Warpaint / Best Coast / xx, so I might as well do too. Although, straight up, mine isn't going to be quite the same as the BBC Sound of 2011 which will feature James Blake and some others maybe along the lines of Cults, Tennis and Clare Maguire from the indie blog scene, another probable are the NME's new favourites (awful too) The Vaccines, the new (and unbelievably shit) "Kings of Leon" Mona and then not forgetting the token Rap artist too. Brighton trio Esben and the Witch have just put the video for their debut single, 'Lucia, at the Precipice' online, which you can see below. The limited-edition 7", backed by 'They Use Smiles to Bury You', came out via the Too Pure Singles Club last month and sold out immediately.

Esben and the Witch are a new(ish) three-piece band from Brighton slowly accumulating hype amid the blogosphere. They named themselves after a Danish fairy story and there is plenty of susurrus about their wiccan tendencies. Their music is difficult to categorise: a blend of ambient shimmers, Portishead-influenced indie rock, and Bjork-like glitch, it is ethereal, spooky and often quite breathtakingly good. Currently preparing to tour across the UK with the Big Pink in May, Esben and the Witch has released a new seven-inch single, which includes the stunning "Lucia, at the Precipice".
