I had the good fortune of a friend checking out The Juan Maclean and The Field play at the Double Door a few days ago. A bit of luck definitely played a part in me catching this show, as I had no idea either band was in town until the night before the show, when a friend asked me to check out the show with them. Given my previously mentioned appreciation of The Juan Maclean, I was already excited for the show…then I found out the day of the show that The [...]

The last time I saw The Juan MacLean play they were supporting DFA affiliated brethren Cut Copy across Australia. I was one of maybe two people in attendance for their set and of course by the time Cut Copy came on it was a sea of sweat and glow sticks. I have a feeling that next time they tour Australia it will be a completely different story. A self described "disco inflected Human League sounding record," The Juan Maclean will release they're long awaited LP "The Future Will Come" on April 14. In keeping with DFA's [...]

The Juan Maclean will finally release their sophomore LP The Future Will Come via DFA on April 14th. The disc follows up the 2005 debut Less Than Human , a fantastic dance-electro album that deserves repeated listens. On the new LP, Juan Maclean recruits vocalist Nancy Whang of LCD Soundsystem, as well as synth duo Holy Ghost! and !!! drummer Jerry Fuchs. Based on these facts, I'm thinking this is gonna be one hot and sweaty opus of a dance record. A single release for "One Day" is coming soon [...]
The Juan MacLean plays tonight at the Doug Fir, in what is sure to be a bouncing, sweating, moving, grooving dance party. Here's the video for their 2003 single, " Give Me Every Little Thing ," which depicts morning-after bleariness and confusion. In short, it's exactly like every morning I've ever had, ever --and thusly, is kinda NSFW. Between this, and Rotture's soul-shaking 2nd anniversary party with Ian Svenonius, and Live Band vs. Ohmega Watts at TBA, it's going to be a tough decision to choose where to get down [...]

This Saturday at Check Yo' Ponytail we have a very very very special guest. We'll be having none other than The Juan Maclean in tearing up the decks, as well as our resident DJs Paparazzi and Franki Chan. The Juan Maclean was formed by John Maclean who played guitar for dance/punk band Six Finger Satellite out of Rhode Island who put out a slew of records out on Subpop. For what reasons I don't know, Maclean left the band and was out of the music world for a bit. The word is that [...]
