"And you... you were all I wanted, you were all I wanted"Tal como no ano passado, o top das músicas de 2009 aparecerá neste blog em forma de clip, na designação Top Tracks 30-2009. 30 canções que marcaram pela positiva, quer em arranjo, quer em letra, quer em alegria, quer em tristeza, quer em maior número de vezes que ouvi ao longo de todo o ano.A primeira que elenca este rol chega da Suécia,
This week State packs its bags and jets off to France to attend Europavox , a neat little music festival taking place in the town of Clermont-Ferrand. Now in its fourth year, the festival manifests itself as a series of concerts held in venues around Clermont and the surrounding area to showcase the finest European musical talent. And if that wasn’t enough, Europavox also plays host to an industry convention, where indie music execs from across the continent get together to wheel and deal. Here’s just some of the acts we’re looking forward to: [...]

Fever Ray has announced a brief fall North American tour today. She's hitting the usual hotspots (NYC, LA, SF, Toronto) and I may just need to plan a trip to Los Angeles or San Francisco in October to catch her. I've been on a Bat For Lashes/Fever Ray/Polly Scattergood kick the last few weeks, and I feel like I'm becoming one with the universe. Maybe I can just think myself there? To get a taste of what such an event might look like (or if you want nightmares for a month), take a gander at this [...]
Lonely Dear's Emil Svanangen described last year's release Dear John as a "marvelous album in dark shades with a lava-like glow from underneath." Appropriately, the video for "Airport Surroundings" has Svanangen driving through the night, with only his falsetto and the occasional streetlight to guide the way.

Following up a sold out U.S. tour opening for Andrew Bird, Sweden's Loney Dear launches its own headlining U.S. tour which started yesterday in Philadelphia and continues tonight in Brooklyn (full dates below). Hailing from the small city of Jonkoping, Sweden, Loney Dear's primary member Emil Svanängen first began making homemade recordings of delicate, folkish indie pop in the early 2000s. As Loney, Dear (the band has since deleted the comma from its name), Svanängen self-released three homemade CD-Rs through his website: River Fontana Redux , Citadel Band , and Sologne . As [...]

Never judge a book by its cover, or an album by it's first song; the latter is something I learned while reviewing Loney Dear's fifth full-length album Dear John. Loney Dear is the musical project of Emil Svanängen, and the album Dear John, released January 27th to the US, is a culmination of genres, experimentation, and perfectionism. Having never heard anything of Loney Dear before this album
Cannes music convention...Midem....biggest joke...now the industry has given up on fighting mp3s...instead they'll attach advertising....thanks, that the pain ends now...but I can quickly tell why I never bought that whiny indie as shit...because it misses everything that I find exciting. I am a human being. I grew up in the darkest forests of Germany (ok, not me, but my ancestors...brutal vikings who would believe in many gods, sailing the sea, raising beautiful blonde women - those genes are still carried by the best looking supermodels...haha...fuck you UK...you come up with one every decade, while [...]

Loney, Dear Loney Dear 's, new album, Dear John , came out on Tuesday ( January 27 ) and to mark the occasion Emil Svanängen and his band are embarking on their biggest tour of the US to date. Loney, Dear will be supporting Andrew Bird for a lot of this tour (which should be great exposure for him), but he'll be headlining Union Hall tomorrow night ( January 31 ) and playing an in-store gig at the [...]
Former DIY poster-boy Emil Svanängen has come a long way from his basement CDRs, sold at his shows in his hometown of Jönköping, Sweden. Deals with Sub-Pop and PolyVinyl beckoned and strong word-of-mouth placed him at the forefront of the electronic-indie wave, residing in the same circles as the likes of The Notwist.
First single from the new Loney Dear album Dear John.
When we were looped in by Polyvinyl Record Co. that they had, in fact, signed one of our favorite indie-pop acts, Sweden's Loney Dear [Myspace], we did a fun little dance. Why? Because we...

Kimya Dawson , better known to some as one half of The Moldy Peaches , probably wishes there were some sort of national superfan do-not-call registry. But until that day comes she's using her blog to remind a few overzealous fans about the limits of decency, and also ways by which she prefers to be stalked. Our friends at Impose caught this one, a post on Dawson's MySpace blog called "Boundaries." She referenced a lyric from her song "Loose Lips" ("If you're going to kill yourself [...]

When last we saw Emil Svanängen he was busking in London while a bunch of kids laughed at him. In the Marcus Söderlund-directed video for Dear John opener "Airport Surroundings," he's out for revenge, first on his bike and then in his car, never once stopping for gas, and covering more ground than you'd expect from a three-minute Swedish pop song. OK, it's likely not revenge he's after, but coupled with the obsessive lyrics it makes for a somewhat dark, creepy stalker vibe -- albeit in a not-very-scary Death Cab For Cutie way.
