Surviving Beastie Boys members Michael Diamond (Mike D) and Adam Horovitz (Ad-Rock) have remained out of the spotlight following the death of bandmate Adam Yauch (MCA) last year. But according to The New York Times , Diamond and Horovitz will soon put pen to paper, chronicling the hip-hop group's illustrious history in a memoir. The pair have signed a deal with Spiegel & Grau, an imprint of the Random House Publishing Group, which will release the book in fall 2015. A title is expected to be announced later this week. [...]
Guys, it was announced yesterday that the Ricki Lake show was cancelled. OMG dang. It got me thinking about this one clip where a surprisingly erudite Sebastian Bach of the rock 'n' roll group Skid Row was on her oldshow, talking about how awesome marijuana is: It also got me thinking about some other clips of musicians' appearances on daytime television. For example, did you know that even punk icons can litigate in small-claims, televised court rooms? Because once Johnny Rotten ...

I was overwhelmed Monday by very kind and unbelievably flattering feedback on my post about MCA , which probably speaks more to the legacy and impact of the Beastie Boys than anything. I heard from so many people from various corners of my life who were all recalling their best Beasties stories or mourning MCA's death in their own ways. Maybe it's not Buddy Holly and the day the music died, but it feels like a defining moment for a certain generation of music fans. So it didn't seem right to let it end on just one [...]
Celebrating the life of a big artist

“ It feels good to play a little music / Tears running down my face 'cause I love to do it ” Adam Yauch - "Root Down" Beastie Boys - "I Don't Know" Adam Yauch who lost his three year battle with Salivary Gland cancer on Friday (4th May) certainly crammed a lot of life into his all too short 47 years. A Buddist, Tibet freedom campaigner and concert organiser, film distributor, director, magazine [...]

Adam Yauch's (aka MCA) death has resonated deeply in and out of our demographic. The Beastie Boys' impact on music and pop culture is deep and indisputable. Punk,Hip Hop, Rock, Lounge Core, Sampling... they are/were one of the true innovators over the last 30 years. Even the NY Mets paid tribute to the Beastie Boys (as they should have- after all, the Beastie Boys are as "New York" as the Mets are! MCA's death from cancer represents perhaps the first of our "Generation X" (or is it "Y")" musical icons to succumb to a [...]
Today, we lost the great MCA , at the way-too-young age of 47. We knew he'd been fighting cancer for years, but this is still the sort of news that wrenches you around and leaves you dizzy. It's nearly impossible to capture or quantify the sort of impact that Yauch and the Beasties had on music and pop culture over the last few decades. But we decided to do something else here: Celebrating the man's career by picking 20 great, isolated moments from his professional life. There's nothing definitive about this list, and we're surely missing some big ones, [...]
