Well, this is certainly surprising. Last time I heard Noisettes the London trio was hardly confined to one genre, but its muscles flexed hardest on the rock side of the fence. The band's recent UK single is a far cry from anything on its sprawling debut, What's the Time Mr Wolf? , eschewing sinewy bass lines and flashy rock guitars in favor of disco beats and electronic flourishes. When did the Noisettes morph into a dance-rck band? I mean the tracks on their debut, What's the Time Mr. Wolf , certainly had some dance elements, but with their new single, "Don't Upset the Rhythm" they've gone gone completely dance. The band performed the song on Jools Holland this week, and lead singer Shingai Shoniwa certainly earned her keep, as she bounces around a big heart in the middle of the stage, stands on the bass drum, and mugs for the camera. There's not many late night performances that are more energetic than this. [...]
