Really dig that shit. Pretty cool stuff... Share this: Posted in sound

A lot of people on the Internet are poking fun at the way Jules moved last night while performing "11th Dimension" for the nation on the Tonight Show. Not that bad! We'll admit that the vocals are pretty brittle throughout, but look at the symmetry sandwiching that mammoth vocal hook: two sets of keys, two guitars (could be another hidden in the back) and two drumkits. This, is a dude that thinks shit though often enough. Let him be free!
Julian Casablancas is days away from releasing his debut album and has only had to face a leak a couple of days prior to the release. Now he is on the Tonight Show performing a track from "Phrazes For The Young". Whoever is responsible for mixing the sound of his voice did... Click the link to read more

With Julian Casablancas ' Phrazes for the Young now making its way around the Internet, its time to decide whether the wait was in vain or not. To no one's surprise the album is good. Casablancas brings an unmistakable swagger to the tracks that helped The Strokes cement their place in music history. The opening track, "Out of the Blue" conjures memories of Strokes' pacing and tone, with added production, making it assuredly unique. As the album continues, it's apparent that the album title is appropriate, every track is rooted in a different [...]

Performing complexly synthesized compositions on record is one thing... I like the way Julian Casablancas lays his voice out over Phrazes For The Young 's electro backdrops, partially because it feels so insulated and obsessive, a man and his bed of keyboards, drum machines, guitars, etc., alone in the studio. Watching him do it live with a bunch of folks who aren't the Strokes? Less exciting. (And points off for the drummer's L.A. Dodgers hat. Ludlow Street's in NYC, sir.) If you can look beyond an awkward beginning, things do click here/there in this thin-sounding [...]
