Around two months ago, I just happened to be out grabbing a quick bite in this fantastic eaterie in the East End of Glasgow near where I work when I spotted what looked like at least two members of Frightened Rabbit at a nearby table, neither of who were the Hutchison brothers. Some 15 minutes later I got to leave and then spotted that one of the other two members of the table whose backs had been turned away from where is was sitting was in fact [...]
![DEATH CAB, SUFJAN STEVENS, LYKKE LI [SUGGESTED NYC CONCERTS]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3607845_lg.jpg)
Be excited because this week might just be the best week of indie concerts in New York City in recent history. Not only is Death Cab for Cutie playing Williamsburg Waterfront, but Sufjan Stevens has two dates at Prospect Park, Lykke Li is playing Central Park, and we're putting on a show for Body Language and Port St. Willow (featuring Peter Silberman of The Antlers ) at Cameo Gallery . It's going to be an amazing week. Go see some music! [...]
Frightened Rabbit , currently on tour opening for Death Cab For Cutie are performing at next week's Free At Noon concert at World Cafe Live. You can RSVP here after today's show with Tim Robbins & The Rogues Gallery Band. The band are playing The Mann next Friday night with Death Cab. Below, watch the video for "Swim Until You Can't See Land" from Frightened Rabbit's 2010 release The Winter Of Mixed Drinks

It is so refreshing to find some good indie rock, and not that long ago I would be introduced to Scottish band, Frightened Rabbit . Initially the band started out with only guitarist/vocalist Scott Hutchinson performing as a solo artist. However, through the course of 2003, he added other members to form a more complete band. Their debut, Sing the Greys would be released in 2006. They would find themselves in the United States playing the popular SXSW festival. In 2008 [...]
It's a tough week to make a case for a rock show--what with some baseball team clogging up most locals' night-time plans and all--but The Loft's got a compelling argument tomorrow night when it ho... Given that all the communicating I do with you is via the internet, you may be surprised to learn I've never been the quickest to embrace new trends. I held off on getting a mobile phone for at least a couple of years after everyone else had them ("why would I want people to always be able to contact me?" seemed like a reasonable objection at the time), I was about 10 months late in joining the Twitter bandwagon and I only thought to set up The Pop Cop's own Facebook [...]

It's been six months and thousands of miles of touring since "Scott vs. the Volcano" — a battle that the volcano won but that did little to take the fight out of Scott Hutchison and his bandmates in Frightened Rabbit . The Scottish quintet was one of several bands marooned in European airports last April thanks to Eyjafjallajökull, the impertinent Icelandic volcano that spewed ash, paralyzed air travel and prevented several acts from making their appointed rounds at the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival. "You saw the video on YouTube of guy shouting 'I hate [...]

Vampire Weekend (Main Stage, Friday) The highlight of Oxegen 2008, these New Yorkers are the ultimate festival band. As tight as a fish's bottom and as much fun as you can have in public with your clothes on, Vampire Weekend cordially invite you to jump up and down like you haven't done since you used to queue to get into the pit in the SFX (or maybe that's just us). Frightened Rabbit (2FM / Hot Press Academy Stage, Friday) [...]

It's safe to say that, here at GoldFlakePaint , we're very much fans of scottish indie-rockers Frightened Rabbit . So much so, in fact, that the GFP journey began with a rather gushing review of their Bristol Thekla gig from earlier this year. Therefore it's with great self-pride and lots of excitement that todays Favourite Five feature comes from none-other than the Frabbits drummer - Grant Hutchinson. Frightened Rabbit began when Grant joined up with brother and front-man Scott back in 2004. Their debut album, Sing [...]
Those mixed drinks can warm you up or weigh you down as the snow piles up. The band always goes for the former, and that warmth extends out to the listener. What a red herring "The Greys" turned out to be. The first track on Frightened Rabbit's debut album back in 2006 was all angular guitars and tense energy. It may have set up the tight but disconnected album that followed, but it gave us no indication of where this great Scottish band was going. Their second disc The Midnight Organ Fight melted down the icy edges of its [...]

When Scott Hutchison fronts Frightened Rabbit, he sings and sounds like he could use a drink. So while you're in Austin, why not have one with him when he plays our Garden Party. He started the band back in his home of Selkirk, Scotland, as a vehicle for his solo project, and picked up more pieces (including his brother Grant) along the way. The band has a knack for pitting heart-wrenching lyrics against grand backdrops, but singles "Swim Until You Can't See Land" and "Nothing Like You" hit perfectly earnest high notes. So whether you're drinking to forget or simply [...]
Frightened Rabbit - Swim Until You Can't See Land/Living In Colour FatCat Records The Winter Of Mixed Drinks (March 9, 2010 US/Today UK) Indie Folk/Folk Rock/Pop Frightened Rabbit are receiving infinitely more mainstream attention than they did back in the post-Midnight Organ Fight days. They placed top of my albums of 2008 list at a time when their rallying Scottish folk-rock had barely brushed the top of the blogosphere, with the occasional lowly tabloid feature - and now, a week before [...]

You heard me. Frightened Rabbit is going on an extensive American tour in support of their forthcoming third full-length, The Winter of Mixed Drinks , due out March 9. This doesn't happen particularly often, so don't miss it. Seriously, don't. If I hear any more about this negligence of yours, I'm really going to get angry. It's just selfish, you know? You you you. Always about you. See a band live, for a change. Live a little. Gosh. Frightened Rabbit - "Head Rolls Off" [MP3] March 17 - Austin, Texas [...]
At least according to its publicist, Frightened Rabbit will be making its St. Louis debut on Friday, May 7, at the Old Rock House. (Show details TBA; it's not on the ORH website just yet.) The Sc... Continue reading "So, Looks Like Frightened Rabbit Is Coming to Town" >

Or rather, great songs from good albums that came out this year. Or great songs that weren't on an album at all. Or great songs that were on albums that I never got round to listening to. Oh, just great songs, alright? (Some of my favorite songs are actually on favorite albums, so see here for them.)
