English dance punk kings Friendly Fires just released their sophomore album Pala two days ago, and they're hitting up 9:30 Club next Thursday (5/26). We have a chance for you to win a pair of tickets , should you survive The Rapture tomorrow . (All you athiests, keep reading!) The band rose to fame on merits of their smash single "Paris" from their eponymous debut album. The lyrics to "Paris" [...]
The nominees for the annual Barclaycard Mercury Prize were just announced this morning across the pond. Wait, what is the Barclaycard Mercury Prize? You may have recognized it as simply the "Mercury Prize", the prestigious honor awarded to the BEST album of the year from the United Kingdom or Ireland. This year's nominees are (as always) an eclectic bunch, see them all below (arranged alphabetically, click on the band name to visit their site) along with a video and tell us who you fancy, eh? Bat For Lashes - [...]

Today I have spent a lot of time driving and therefore, with the radio on. This is how I was reminded of this song. The first time I heard the Friendly Fires, to say I was unimpressed would be an understatement, but over time, this song just kept creeping into my life. Eventually, I conceded defeat! It is too catchy and the production is fantastic. I think the time I decided I actually liked it was on last year's BBC Glastonbury coverage where they performed a stripped down version. I'm not sure if I'm correct, but it also [...]
dedicated to my fren find me a decent lad and i'll find you a gentleman ;D
Ahead of their Heineken Green Spheres show with Casiokids and Thecockandbullkid in Waterford on Wednesday (Doors open at 9pm, First act 10pm - to accomodate the Champions League Final), Ed McFarlane of the funky/indie/shoegaze band Friendly Fires talks to State about recording a debut LP with one microphone, his ideal remix team, their funk and making electronic music based on cats.. A lot of Friendly Fires songs have an upfront funky element. Where does that come from? Ed: It must be my love [...]

a few things i'm thinking/reading, various levels of controversy. the drones get a blah review on pitchfork . this reminds me of an augie march pitchfork review i read back at the height of parochial augiemania. the drones, augie march... eddy current?.. aussies wet themselves, the world collectively shrugs. i personally think pitchfork should pay more attention to truly great aussie releases like kram & thirsty merc. one view of the musical middle class . some further proof that the 'new music business' is great fodder for marketing dudes to come up [...]

Once in a while I obsess over some dance music, usually indie dance and not the mainstream stuff. I listen to tracks on repeat because there is just something about good dance music that makes me feel happy. The most recent of these obsessions is Friendly Fires. Several terms have been used to describe the English trio in addition to the indie dance tag; funk-punk, shoegaze, dance pop. All descriptions are apropos. Whatever the description, this is infectious bounce-your-head-to-the-beat music. They certainly know how to craft a perfect pop song. I have a litmus test for dance music, [...]
For reasons unknown to me, UK three-piece Friendly Fires have re-shot the film clip for their infectious as the bubonic plague "Paris". I can only assume it was because frontman Ed Macfarlane too closely resembled Brandon Flowers with his neckerchief. New clip.

Friendly Fires - Friendly Fires (Beggars XL) -- 80s Dancing is cool again!!! --

I was watching TV with some friends and heard On Board by Friendly Fires, but remembered I had not mentioned anything about them. When I looked at the TV I was surprised that it was being used for a Wii Fit Commercial. They are a great band from the UK. A little dance a little rock and all around good. Here is their video for Paris. Friendly Fires - Photobooth Friendly Fires [...]
by Bill Pearis DOWNLOAD: Yellow Fever - Culver City (MP3) DOWNLOAD: Yellow Fever - Joe Brown (MP3) DOWNLOAD: Friendly Fires - Jump in the Pool (MP3) Friendly Fires I don't want to tread on Showtrotta/Mr. Bruno's territory here (and I know they mentioned them already ), but UK dance-rock act Friendly Fires are in town [...]
I was just sitting around wondering out loud, "Whatever happened to Friendly Fires ? I super loved their first couple eps/single." So I jumped on the MySpace, and sure enough their debut album is right around the corner. Good news. That said, I'm not sure I am totally sold on "Jump In The Pool"... it's kinda missing the addictive groove of their previous songs (i.e. "Paris" or that excellent Nightmoves remix of "On Board"), but maybe it's just not what I was expecting? I'm pretty sure after a few more listens I'm gonna fall hard for [...]

Out on September 1st, it features all the classics and was self-produced in one of their dad's garages. Apart from soon-to-be single 'Jump In The Pool', which utilised the services of one Paul Epworth. I'll jump in your pool in a minute. If you go back to the future(sounds), you'll notice that I tipped Friendly Fires for some hearty success this year [ link ]. I don't expect their album to sell a huge [...]
I like boys that dance a bit awkward, here are some examples Tom Vek – Music Television If you've seen him live, you'll know exactly what I'm talking about, and have probably re-enacted his moves in the clubs, I know I have Clor (R.I.P) – Outlines Not only is the song awesome but [...]

Now this is a fucking great song! Friendly Fires Myspace
For a quite a good while one song has been guarranteed to get DaisyWizz insane excited and up and dancing within a matter of seconds. The band is Friendly Fires and the song is Paris. The degree of DJ bullying and level of excitement on hearing the first few bars built over months leading to quite a climatic performance in London at PUSH in February, spinning around in circles and running laps round a club may not seem [...]
