Brit rockers Bloc Party are set to perform in Nashville this Friday, January 18 , at The Cannery Ballroom . I believe this marks the band's first stop in town since 2007. Released late last summer, the band's latest album, Four , found the post-punks' triumphant retur n to form after a three year hiatus. Four takes the band's signature danceable, Britpop-influenced indie rock and pushes it to even more energetic and inspired new bounds. Though their new album didn't carry quite the hype of their career-defining debut, Silent Alarm , it is easily the bands' strongest effort [...]

There's always been antagonism in the music of Bloc Party between guitarist Russell Lissack and frontman Kele Okereke's own desire to create an electro record. And it's been a busy couple of years for the band, what with Okereke off writing his own solo material (such as the excellent Tenderoni and What Did I Do? ) and seemingly being kicked out. Now Bloc Party return with their fourth album, ingeniously entitled 'Four' (sadly not linked to Beyoncé) . Okereke has clearly knocked the [...]

Brooklyn group Yeasayer top this week's list of new releases as they continue down the path away from their initial indie-tribal leanings with, what our Music Director, Don Yates, calls "a darker and more adventurous take on the dance-friendly synth-pop of 2010’s Odd Blood , combining warped, buzzing synths, jittery rhythms, processed vocals and dystopian lyrics." No doubt, Fragrant World will elevate Yeasayer's indie status to its rightful place beside NY contemporaries Dirty Projectors and Animal Collective. Read a full review of the album on the KEXP blog here . Also out this week [...]

In that time, the band's lead singer Kele Okereke put out a solo album entitled Boxer , while guitarist Russell Lissack and bassist Gordon Moakes focused on their own respective side-projects. This prompted several rumors that Okereke had left the band and that the [...]

After the weird Bloc Party-trying-to-remember-how-t o-be-Bloc-Party track 'Octopus' earlier this month, it's nice to hear them sounding a little healthier with 'Day Four'. It's a slow-burner with no obvious chorus, but sounds like it would fit in nicely on Weekend In The City; at one stage Kele even sings: "The city [Read more]
