PopMatters chats with Rolf Klausener about the Acorn's superb and concise new record, No Ghost . With their latest LP, No Ghost, Canadian folk-poppers the Acorn have done a strange thing: scaling down and de-glorifying their craft (after the immaculate Glory Hope Mountain from 2008), making it seem like a wonderful progression towards a woodsy, utopian breed of rock. by teepoo Acorn is more than just a nut on a tree, they are Ottawa native indie/folk band. In 2008, they were nominated for the Polaris Music Prize and their latest album No Ghosts shows a marriage between acoustic and electronic. Gabe Levine of Takka Takka played a great opening set, some of which I expect will be on his forthcoming solo album (hopefully, more about that later). Basia Bulat and The Acorn played spectacular sets; The Acorn's Rolf Klausener may have missed his other calling as a stand-up comedian, and Basia Bulat as a Polish translator. Let's face the simple fact: it's easy to be a sucker for stop-motion animation. The Acorn 's new video for "Restoration" loosely fits into that category. Though a lot of it seems more like sped up live action, there are moments when artificial butterflies flutter and beasts emerge--and those moments truly look great (though it can't compete with Woods ' effort from last year). Don't forget about The Acorn's upcoming tour .
