Again one of the brightest stars in the indie universe has died. Mark Linkous of Sparklehorse has apparently comitted suicide due to depression. So sad. Sometimes it was hard to understand where the beauty of his songs came from - maybe from too much pain in his life. Sad news arrived early this morning that Sparklehorse frontman Mark Linkous committed suicide yesterday (March 6). A statement from Linkhous's family reads: "" It is with great sadness that we share the news that our dear friend and family member, Mark Linkous, took his own life today. We are thankful for his time with us and will hold him forever in our hearts. May his journey be peaceful, happy and free. There's a heaven and there's a star for you. " ------ [...]

Rolling Stone is reporting that Mark Linkous , the mastermind behind Sparklehorse , took his own life on Saturday. This is terribly sad news and comes just months after Vic Chesnutt (who had worked with Linkous in the past) killed himself. And, as in Chesnutt's case, just a look at song titles and a listen to lyrics reveal that Linkous made no secret about his sadness - "Heart of Darkness", "I Almost Lost My Mind", "Sick of Goodbyes". Really brutal news from Rolling Stone : Mark Linkous, frontman for psych-rock mainstays Sparklehorse, has committed suicide. Among his many recordings was 2001's It's a Wonderful Life , a really fantastic record in line with Mercury Rev's Deserter's Songs and the Flaming Lips' The Soft Bulletin ; the title track can be found above.
