Video: Bodega BAMZ - P.A.P.I (feat. Willie HEX)

As far as I can tell, the three most interesting things about the Spanish Harlem rapper Bodega Bamz are as follows: His nicely sculpted beard, his vague A$AP Mob affiliation, and his name, the last of which is either great or terrible, depending on which mood I'm in. He's not an inherently fascinating figure. He raps in a hard, taut yammer, excitable without being all that expressive, and he never falls off the beat. The Tanboys are quietly beginning to be seem like the BCC to A$AP’s Wu-Tang. Yeah, I know comparisons of new rappers to giants of the past are cliché and tired, but it can help add a little context. Also being that the Tanboys are pulling from two decades of NY rap it’s more likely that they’re synthesizing Dipset, Terror Squad, and G Unit than the aforementioned. Remember Bodega BAMZ ; aka PAPI, aka TANBOYS general, recognized as Spanish Harlem's A$AP affiliate? Im going to assume so, but if you live in New York, you've undoubtably heard of him. Bamz returns with visuals for his track "P.A.P.I" off of his project Strictly 4 My P.A.P.I.Z dropping September 11th , and although the video follows a cliched "Last Supper" motif, BAMZs' energy is so egregious, it is easy to forget that it has been done before. Jimmy Ness is still trying to figure out the A$AP equivalent to Sunz of Man. Fried chicken, Versace robes and spilled champagne, the Tanboys dabble in decadence. Bodega Bamz and Willie Hex trade verses about the high life over 808s and a haunting melody.
