Legendary folk artist Richie Havens died this morning after suffering a sudden heart attack at his home. He was 72. The Brooklyn native is widely known for his stirring and impromptu opening performance at the 1969 Woodstock Festival. He and his band played for three hours (!) and left the crowd in an awe the entire time. For the remainder of his career, he spent much of his time on the road and recording stirring covers of pop and soul songs.
