by Bill Pearis One of my favorite albums of last year was the debut album by UK band TOY . Featuring ex members of Joe Lean & the Jing Jang Jong (don't hold that against them) and fronted by Tom Dougall (brother of Rose Elinor Dougall), the band make motorik shoegaze that doesn't skimp on the hooks. (Yes, they are a little like The Horrors.) You can stream the album below and check out a few music videos ("Motoring" is [...]

It's been three weeks now since TOY released their self-titled debut album and it's a record that is showing no signs of slowing down. Graciously received upon release, the record is going through that whole word-of-mouth stage that slow-burning rock epics tend to generate. And what a record it is. Dense and swirling guitars, pulsing rhythms and enough fresh ideas to blow those Autumnal blues clean away it's both a wonderful debut record and a bold statement of intent. Ahead of the bands first headline tour since the records release, we caught up with front-man Tom [...]

So, despite the usual August bollocks and the tragic lack of the Retreat! Festival from our lives this year, it seems there's really rather a lot of fun stuff happening in Edinburgh for those (like myself) who would prefer to hide from the Edinburgh Festival rather than embrace it. Places like the Queen's Hall seem to have taken a slightly surprising, yet very welcome interest in local music recently, so they have what looks like the highlight of the week to me, with the #UNRAVEL show tomorrow. I will be driving Meursault through to Glasgow for their gig [...]
We've been hearing such great feedback buzz surrounding fairly new dynamic London-based group TOY . "TOY is a Korg Delta led five-piece formed in 2010. It consists of Tom Dougall (Vox/Guitars), Dominic O'Dair (Guitars), Maxim Barron (Bass/Vox), Alejandra Diez (Synthesizers/Modulation) and Charlie Salvidge (Drums/Vox). TOY's musical influences incorporate a wide range of genres including punk, psychedelia, krautrock, and post-rock...." You may also remember some of the members from the now defunct Joe Lean & The Jing Jang Jong. TOY is a far different animal, though, and have worked hard to establish their own sound; a dark [...]

I'm a huge fan of music videos made with the same horse-riding children as seen in This American Life. Rudimental's glossy club/gospel remixes do extremely well with John Newman's vocals on the video for "Feel the Love". I do. TOY has hairy color. Liars encounter some man-boobs. Willy Moon has infectious confidence. Crybaby has a [...]
Psych-pop loving ? It's the TOY 's two week old video, MOTORING . Take a trip via this visual treat ..

Looking back to last week, I was lamenting a lack of sunglasses and celebrating barbeque weather. Shocking. It is now a miserable Wednesday, with extra football the only vague bonus. And of course a host of great singles. There are ace releases from the likes of current blog sensations Toy and Mafia Lights, along with Being There and Man Without Country, giving a little variety for your chocolate hangover. I personally got a Double Decker egg with a free mug- growing up. TOY – 'Motoring' [...]
The buzz around Toy has been growing towards a crescendo ever since their first gig a year ago at a hipsterish London club night run by The Horrors . By the time they embarked upon an already-legendary weekly residency at hip Dalston boozer The Shacklewell Arms in January this year, it was louder than a squadron of biplanes overhead. Last year's double-A debut single, "Left Myself Behind/Clock Chimes" , established their signature sound of relentless motorik rhythms, distorted synthesisers and psychedelic guitars. Epic in sound and scope, the seven-and-a-half minute [...]

Psych shoe-gaze upstart TOY is set to release their new single 'Motoring' on April 23rd, until then you can watch the cool clip above. Really digging on this band and this rad track hopefully you will too. Expect a full length project ot see daylight later this year.

Facebook / toy-band.com/ This blog has been a long time coming, a lot of people have labelled TOY their 'new favourite band' and over the past few months the London five piece have been on the end of all manner of glowing praise from beings and pages far more glossy and prestigious than these. For that reason this posting has been on the back-burner but I decided it was time to finally put something down, after all these pages serve as a journal of music taste and slowly but surely TOY have [...]
