Capybara - Earlier this year, Capybara self-released their excellent debut album - Try Brother - and are now planning on a proper release next week on indie label The Record Machine. Hopefully that means more exposure for the band, whose music deserves any attention it receives. Freak-folk might be an appropriate label for the Kansas City group, but they rest on the softer, more melodic side of the genre. Their lo-fi approach - utilizing guitars, banjos, and various percussion - gives their songs a charmingly rustic sound, but its the songwriting that truly shines [...]

Animal Kingdom Genre: Epic Rock From: South London, United Kingdom UK epic rockers Animal Kingdom have taken time out from celebrating their first single, 'Tin Man' , being named Blender.Com's track of the month to chew the virtual fat with the Devil. The Devil : Why Animal Kingdom? What other names did you ponder [...]
Animal Kingdom [ MySpace ] recently released their album Signs and Wonders to rave reviews from critics and the praise of fans. Their tune, "Tin Man," is featured here in a great video and the song earned the distinction of Track of the Month at Blender.com . Their assertion that the track is "like Coldplay fronted by Jon Anderson of Yes " is spot-on; after 3-4 listens I finally came to a similar conclusion, but added the word "good" in front of Coldplay to designate the time B.A. [...]

Animal Kingdom have this sort of dreamy quality, trying to fill a void left by Radiohead a long time ago. With the debut video of their song, "Tin Man," that song is translated into appropriate visuals. A light snow falls over a two-dimensional city, it's simple concept, but it works.

Myspace // "Tin Man" (demo) [Audio] Animal Kingdom's great weakness is also their greatest strength - they are terribly derivative, but the thing is, they do it so well. Their songs are almost the same quality as other well known indie acts like (early) Radiohead, Snow Patrol, and Coldplay. With just a couple of singles out for public consumption, the band already has a reputation for writing catchy and beautifully sweeping songs. The indie kids are going to hate [...]
If Coldplay and Snow Patrol are too mainstream, but you still like that sweeping, cinematic indie rock, then Animal Kingdom is for you. This great tune got a great video to go along with it.
