This new Editors album ( In This Light And On This Morning ) is all delicious synthesizer gloss, the "New Order" to their "Joy Division" if you will. It's still sexy, but darker and more polished, as if someone told singer Tom Smith that he needed to get out of his funk and sent him trotting/sulking off to the nearest discoteque. When nobody was looking, Editors went ahead and released a new album. In This Light and On This Evening is available digitally with a physical U.S. release due out on Jan. 19. After a few spins, I'm not sure what to make of this new, synth-heavy direction the band has taken. The dark/industrial undertones are ripe for remixes and singer Tom Smith's voice sounds even more affected and theatrical than normal. NEW RELEASE FROM EDITORS - In This Light And On This Evening , the third Editors album went on sale in Europe this week. The record won't be out in the US until Oct 27th. The first single off 'In this Light' is " Papillon ," meaning butterfly in French. The term was first referenced was first referenced in the autobiography 'Papillon' by Henri Charrière. Só me apetece fugir , ouvimos (e dizemos) tantas vezes. Com esta, é a segunda vez que "Papillon" dos Editors beijam este blogue. Justificadamente? Na minha nada modesta opinião, sem duvida. Porque esta fuga para os sintetizadores dos Editors é um hino ao pop-rock que se fez (e faz) nas últimas três décadas. Uma musica como poucas; que nos inspira, faz viajar e vibrar. Não poupemos nas palavras: uma ode à electricidade. Fujamos, pois!

Earlier on in this year Doves cited the influence of Vangelis' Blade Runner soundtrack on their song 'Jetstream', which made a lot of sense with their history of synthesised layers to their northern British rock sound. Now we find Editors referencing the soundtrack to another '80s science fiction/noir-ish classic as an influence on what is a definite change of direction for this other northern British band – who always did have something of the night about them anyhow.
