The New Year - "The End is Near" After the Austin, Texas-based slowcore group Bedhead had run its course, the brothers at its coreâ€"Bubba and Matt Kadaneâ€"returned with the New Year. Since their 2001 debut they've made two more albums, their self-titled latest hitting shelves earlier this month. While much more upbeat than their earlier band, an air of melancholy and a powerful sense of focus infuses much of the New Year's music. It stops just short of heading into drone territory, but "resonant pop" might do in a pinch for a quick descriptor. [...]

Four years after the album came out, a music video appears. Good song. think tank

5/20/08 We weren't even aware that the New Year was still around until the Kadane Brothers released this new video for their old song "The End's Not Near." There is more news regarding the former Bedhead brothers as well, in the form of a new album planning to be released this September. There are no real details yet, but the Kadane's will be playing an intimate show at Emo's this June 26th, so hopefully we'll get a preview of the new material then. Judging from the movement in the sun in this video, it took less than fifteen minutes to shoot this video. However, it then took about another two years to finish the video for unknown reasons. Regardless, it's sweet to have a new video from The New Year . Due to the local residence of the band's bass player, Mike Donofrio, Vermont has at least a partial claim to The New Year.
