Went to play some tunes at Offset Festival yesterday (much fun) and managed to catch (much talked about) The XX play. Can happily say they're one of the few bands that are worth the hype even managing a sterling version of Womack and Womack's 'Teardrops'. Here it is but it sounds better live.

We haven't been able to stop listening to the debut album from London band The xx. It will definitely be on our favorite albums of the year list, and may even end up cracking the top 5. It really is that good! The album is currently on sale at the iTunes store and even includes a bonus cover of Aaliyah's "Hot Like Fire". We'd like to share a track with you that's not on the album. I enjoy this brooding cover of Womack & Womack's 1988 R & B single "Teardrops," which comes to your screen courtesy of the buzzy British outfit The xx, very much; the xx's debut album, which came out last week, just jumped to the top of my too-long "2009 releases to be listened to" playlist as a result. If ever I was to describe a new band as a new crush it would be this one. I've seen them play twice in New York this week and keep crushing harder each time. Lead singers Oli and Romy have beautiful voices and the songs have just enough R&B in them to put me into the most relaxed of states.
